Dream Job

Monday was :(. Today was much better.

I got a new tire this morning. I called around to places and saved over $50 in the end.

Drove to work and actually missed taking the bus, especially on the way home.

Lunch was a pb and banana sandwich and strawberries and blueberries mixed into my Aldi strawberry greek yogurt.

Pretty similar nutrition info to Chobani, huh? It tasted nearly identical (and it was only 88 cents)! I need to compare ingredients now.

Around 4 pm, I was day dreaming of making a salad for dinner and putting wasabi peas in it. I had this with a side of pizza. The pizza didn’t even taste good to me! Bring on more veggies! I am craving them like mad lately. That and berries.

I got a good workout in tonight. I mainly focused on lifting weights. I love the endorphins I get from cardio though, so I biked for a bit and walked/ran on the track.

Craig sent me this article and in the subject line of his e-mail, he wrote, “no-we can’t move for this.” I knew it was some amazing opportunity I would die for. Yup, I would totally love this job. Wouldn’t you? If you can move anywhere, apply for it! In case you don’t feel like clicking through–the title is “B.C. city posts $50K foodie dream job” and to summarize–Calgary wants to hire a food blogger who can eat out every day for the next year and blog about it. Sign me up! Or better yet, Milwaukee, please create this position and I’ll boast about our city and the restaurants here, like I do already anyway. :)

Tonight’s going to be a good night

I woke up at 8:22 today, which I saw as a lucky sign because that’s our wedding anniversary, 8/22. Then, the song that randomly was on my radio alarm was Black Eyed Peas’ “I Gotta Feeling.” I was thinking the chorus “tonight’s going to be a good night” meant that my event tonight at work would go well. Crossing my fingers that it does!

My very filling breakfast this morning was coffee with a 2% Fage greek yogurt topped with strawberries and blueberries. I’ve been craving fruit lately and really missing the summer months when berries are in season and so tasty.

Last night, I started reading A Sense of Place and I am enjoying it so far.

Love that the first story I read is from Tim Cahill, who is a native of Wisconsin and talks about growing up in a little town called Waukesha, which is a big suburb of Milwaukee now.

This morning, I did some research on spaetzle. Turns out the type I had yesterday at Mader’s looks like this one from the Taste of Home website. So, I take back what I posted yesterday. Well, it still wasn’t very tasty or my favorite part of the meal and I was bummed because I was really looking forward to it.

After playing on the computer and letting my stomach settle, I went for a walk outside around our neighborhood. Craig and I love taking walks and I miss them, so I got some sun and exercise outdoors. It wasn’t warm, but it wasn’t freezing either.

It’s in the 30’s today and has been all week, so the snow is slowly melting. Yay!

On a random note, I changed my password for my e-mail account this week because I read this blog post. I suggest you do the same so what happened to Amber doesn’t happen to you.

Now it’s time to shower and then sign into a webinar for work! I am excited because I am passionate about the topic and hope to learn a few new things to apply to my job.

Food conversations at Target

Boy, what a busy Monday it was for me at work. I was running around non-stop. Just when the fax machine would go off (I get most of the faxes), the phone would ring, or a new e-mail would come in.

Luckily, meditating really has seemed to help me control my stress levels at work and also helps me think more clearly. I am sure it has helped in many other ways too!

I started off my Monday with Stonyfield French Vanilla yogurt, berries, and chia seeds. This filled me up!

I snacked on an iced coffee and a string cheese at work mid-morning.

I had a big salad with spinach, feta, and red peppers, topped with Italian dressing for lunch. I also had some baby carrots and a vanilla activia.

After eating and reading some blogs, I started The Hunger Games. Craig has been reading it on his kindle, but he’s a slower reader than me and I couldn’t wait to read it!

So, I picked it up from the library just in time for our upcoming trip up north, where we will be doing lots of reading. I wanted to get a head start on it so I can get into a bit before we are at the cottage. Hope it’s a good read! I like it so far.

A Target trip was in order after work. I got out my “All Out Of” list and coupons and was ready to conquer my list! I was on a mission to get some essentials, a few food items, and to use up some coupons! Love my coupons! I actually never bought a coupon organizer from etsy in the end. I just use this cute and cheery Clinique cosmetic bag and filled it with labeled envelopes full of coupons. It works perfectly!

While at Target, I heard one interesting food related conversation and participated in one. I overheard a young mom say to her two boys that she wasn’t buying them scooby fruit snacks because those particular fruit snacks had artificial ingredients in them. She told them, “you wouldn’t understand, but I buy things that are natural and I read the labels to make sure certain packaged foods are good choices.” They kind of whined and then she said, “you’ll understand someday.” I smiled at her as she said this and thought to myself, what a good mom!

The food conversation I participated in was at the checkout. My cashier saw that I was buying cheap balsamic vinegar. Even though it is from Italy, I am sure it’s nothing special. I just needed some to make salad dressing with and to drizzle on my quinoa. She recommended Oro di Oliva in Wauwatosa. She was so excited to share the details of how you can taste conventional olive oil and vinegar vs. Oro di Oliva’s and really taste the difference! I’ll have to check it out soon.

When I got home from Target, I found this lovely package on our back door step! I kind of squealed with joy upon seeing it! I am sampling five different flavors of Food Should Taste Good chips. The company was also generous enough to give five bags to a lucky reader. I’ll post that giveaway a week from today on the 18th, so check back then if you love these chips as much as I do!

We’ll definitely be sampling those up north too! Craig is a major chip eater, while I tend to only care for these more healthy ones and pita chips. :) I told him he can’t scarf down all of these bags, I must sample them for the blog!

Dinner tonight was boring frozen pizza. I had a larabar at work before leaving, so I wasn’t too hungry. I needed to eat something quickly before heading to the gym.

At the gym, I biked for a half hour while reading an old issue of Health magazine. They showed a drawing of the Bulgarian Split Squat and I decided to try it out when I was done biking.

I enjoyed doing this exercise and will definitely incorporate it into my gym routine more often.

Mopping sucks

I had a very relaxing weekend, like I needed after a week of being sick with colitis problems. Here is a collage of my food over the last two days and I of course ate a lot of food that is unpictured like chobani, string cheese, & pita chips.

I also made Paige’s mug cookie, but I made it in a bowl.

It didn’t turn out as well as I had hoped it would, but it tasted great. I just couldn’t eat it all because it was so sweet!

This morning, I had a big mug of coffee while watching CBS Sunday Morning. The story in the background was on shape up type shoes like Sketchers Shape Ups, MBT, Puma, and Reebook. The final conclusion is that those types of shoes don’t really engage muscles like the shoe companies claim they do. (Sorry Angie)!

I was pretty lazy today overall because I needed to relax and still recuperate from feeling sick all week.

But, I was productive with laundry and the worst task of all: mopping. You see, we’re going away this weekend and I don’t want to leave a sloppy house for my in-laws while they come and check on the cats. I guess the worst part of mopping is clearing the items from the kitchen and bathroom before getting to the task itself.

It’s really nice to have a clean kitchen though!

I did make it to the gym tonight. I followed Jillian’s advice from her podcast and didn’t stretch before my workout. Instead, I warmed up on the BOSU before lifting a full circuit of weights. I also walked and ran the track for 10 minutes. I didn’t need to do a lot of cardio because Craig and I walked almost two miles in the humidity this morning.

And now, I am finishing watching the movie Conviction. It’s pretty good–not one of those movies I was super excited to see, but an intriguing story overall.

Time to sign off and get ready for bed! Hooray for a four day week for me. :)

TGIF!

Hooray for TGIF! I can’t believe I never used “TGIF” as a title before now!

Snack at work was an iced coffee and chocolate chip scone. I treated myself because it was Friday and because my belly was hungry.

Lunch was a ham sandwich with spinach on whole wheat and a mango Chobani yogurt.

I ate outside and listened to Jillian Michaels’ podcast, which was excellent! Obviously from this picture, you can see I also listened to it on the way to work this morning! I loved the topics she got into and I found the information really useful. I actually may listen to the beginning of the podcast again and take notes. Unfortunately, I kept getting interrupted while eating and listening to my iPod. I had to tell a guy to leave me alone and back off. Everyone was asking me for money (three separate people did).

Right before I left work, I ate a pink lady apple. I’d have to say this is my favorite type of apple. I had no clue they existed until I lived in Switzerland. Is it weird that I remember where I started eating certain types of food? :)

After work, I napped on the couch. It was glorious! Craig and I went for a walk around the neighborhood too.

Dinner was just Stacy’s pita chips and an electrolyte drink. I didn’t think my stomach could handle anything else.

We’re watching The Social Network for the second time tonight. I liked the movie the first time and it’s fun to re-watch it.

Energetic Friday

It’s amazing what a good night of sleep can do for you! I probably got about 10 hours of sleep and my body didn’t hurt when I woke up for the first time all week. I felt achy and stressed all week with lots going on at work.

Anyway, I purposely got that much sleep because I have to stay up until midnight this evening for work.

I started my morning with Chobani strawberry yogurt topped with strawberries and blueberries.

While at Target last week, I picked up the Starbucks caramel flavored coffee. It is really good! I honestly have a love/hate relationship with flavored coffee and this flavor impressed me. It reminds me most of a caramel frappucino (without all of the calories associated with said drink). Caramel frappucinos used to be my go to drink at Starbucks, so anything that is similar to it without the fat and calories is ok by me.

After watching the morning shows for a bit including a story on how a proper night of sleep at 8 hours plus helped a bunch of women lose weight (how timely), I finally got ready for the gym.

I was in a really cheery and energetic mood this morning, so I went with my new yellow Danskin Active top and my sassy sweaty bands headband. I even dared to take the picture below without makeup on. 20 something year old me would have never done that, but now that I am nearly 31, I don’t care what people think of my makeup less face anymore.

At the gym, I was in an even better mood when I found that someone left behind an old issue of Whole Living magazine, which is becoming one of my favs. I read that while biking for 18 minutes, I lifted a full circuit of weights, did some free weights, abs and the elliptical for 16 minutes. I love great workouts like the one I had today.

I’m cooking up some tofu topped with Penzey’s mural of flavor spice (which is my favorite of Penzey’s spices), so I better run and check to make sure my tofu doesn’t burn. I want to bring a healthy dinner to work so I feel good for my event tonight. That should ensure I stay in a good mood as well. :)

Trade ups

What a relaxing day off it’s been so far! Today’s title is “trade ups” and you’ll see why.

I woke up at the same time as Craig and had a big bowl of Chobani, berries, and granola for breakfast.

While looking at the huge strawberries from Sam’s Club this morning, Craig and I wondered the same thing at about the same time (which is pretty common for us). Why are our strawberries so small compared to the ones you get in the store? We thought it was some kind of growth promoting chemical (not sure how else to describe it) that the farmers use. Anyone know?

After breakfast, I just lounged while watching the Today show and reading blogs. I also entered some giveaways, one of which I won today from Will Jog for Food! This is what I scored. Sweet! Of the items I won, I have only had larabars before, so I can’t wait to report back on how the other products are.

I didn’t feel like going to the gym this morning, so I ran errands instead.

I went to Target to try on some dresses (fail, none looked great) and to buy misc. things like toothpaste, lotion with SPF in it, conditioner, and some nickel free earrings.

After my Target run, I finally went to Little India grocery store. I pass it on my way to the gym and have always wanted to check it out. It offered a nice selection of Indian foods! Lots of huge bags of basamati rice for only $10 or $15.

I picked up Ghee and a boxed Paneer Tikka Masala. Now I just need to get some more ingredients to make one of the recipes from my Indian cooking class.

For these beautifully polished, well-scrubbed, lotioned, and massaged feet/legs. Aaah, I love to treat myself to pedicures but I very rarely get them.

Once home, I enjoyed lunch outside while reading an old Women’s Health from the library. Notice my main man on the cover! :)

Lunch was pretty much the same as yesterday–a turkey sandwich with cheese and mixed greens on a french baguette. We have a huge bag of grape tomatoes to use up, so I had a bowl of those on the side. My drink was a Bolthouse Farms strawberry banana smoothie.

I’ve rested my stomach long enough and I think it’s time to take a bike ride. It’s such a lovely day outside that I hate to waste it indoors!
