Free ice cream on date night!

Hooray for four day weeks because tomorrow is already Friday!

Breakfast was the usual.

coffee, yogurt, blueberries

Snack was a decaf coffee and an Apple Crumble Vita Top. Now I am on a Vita Top kick.

Lunch was the leftover quinoa dish I had for dinner last night and red grapes.

I had a rough afternoon at work. This may be TMI, but most of my readers are females, so I guess it doesn’t matter. It is that time of the month and my stomach was cramping up. I was not comfortable at my desk! I was wishing I could go home early, but I stuck it out.

When I got home, I warmed up a heating pad right away and it felt so good! I meditated with it on my tummy and back.

Oh and seeing this package in the mail cheered me up. Thanks Lindsay! Can’t wait to try the breakfast cookie.

Craig had to return some DVDs to the library tonight, so I went with him. I love libraries and never miss an opportunity to visit them. I looked around at cookbooks and nutrition books, but didn’t check anything out since I already have to look through the cookbooks I checked out last week.

Then we decided to have another Thursday date night by eating out at Ferch’s Malt Shoppe in Greendale.

Ferch's Malt Shoppe

I already knew what I was getting, but Craig looked over the menu for a while until deciding upon a Pepper Jack burger.

Craig deciding on dinner

I got the Buffalo Chicken Wrap with french fries. I was craving salty and sweet foods today, so the fries satisfied the salty.

And we lucked out because my sweet tooth was satisfied by free ice cream (custard) included with our order! SCORE!

I enjoyed chocolate cake batter with brownie bits. Yum!

Craig had strawberry with m&m’s.

After our date, I went to the gym to walk on the treadmill and lift weights. I watched a full episode of My First Place on HGTV and that managed to suck me in for a full 30 minutes. I also saw that I made the top 30 women who logged fitlinxx points for May! I was number 23, hooray!

Well, it’s late and almost bedtime, so I am off.

ABSolutely going to be sore

Hips Abs Butt Intense Thighs (HABIT) class killed me tonight. The teacher set up different exercises than we did last week and they were great and effective ab exercises. We focused more on obliques tonight using hand weights and the step. I am going to be hurting over the next couple of days!

After dinner, Craig and I also went on a walk around the neighborhood. It was a shorter walk because the weather turned suddenly cool and windy.

I have been distracted by etsy for the last half hour. You see, I am not the quickest decision maker when it comes to pretty things from etsy. I have been trying to pick out the best coupon organizer for weeks now. I secretly keep hoping someone will pop up with an Amy Butler fabric coupon organizer. Have you seen her fabrics? They are beautiful!

It’s already getting late here…so a quick post will follow with my eats.

Gotta go, it’s way too late now and I have to get my clothes ready for yoga at work tomorrow. Night!

Addicted to Chobani and Quinoa

I am sure most bloggers do what I do and look at how people searched to ultimately land that searcher on their blog. Someone searched “chobani addiction” today and landed on my site! This search led me to believe that in fact, that searcher may be correct, I have a Chobani addiction. I eat it every day and miss it when I don’t eat it. But, I have been like this about yogurt since I was about five years old. Yogurt really does seem like the one food that helps my Ulcerative Colitis too.

So, I titled my post “addicted to Chobani and Quinoa” because I feel like I have been eating a lot of both lately and never seem to tire of either.

I had a good Monday! It helped to see the sunshine out after a gloomy weekend. I was busier at work than I have been recently, which I like because then the day goes by more quickly.

Had an excellent breakfast of Chobani plain yogurt with fresh blueberries, chia seeds, & raspberry Bonne Maman preserves (miss my Wild Blueberry, but these will do).

Chobani plain with blueberries, preserves, chia seeds, coffee

At work, I snacked on some banana bread before going into a meeting and I am glad I did because the meeting went on longer than I wanted it to.

Lunch was blue corn chips, a ham and cheese sandwich and an apple, carried to work in my new apple cozy thingie. :)

black corn chips, banana bread, ham sandwich, apple

I also had some Trader Joe’s dark chocolate for dessert and some almonds in the afternoon.

I went to the gym after meditating and did a full circuit of weights plus biked 11.17 miles over 31 minutes. I wanted to do more and had the energy, but it was getting late and I had to eat dinner. I seriously wish I could spend two hours plus at the gym sometimes, but just need to manage my time and probably could only do that on the weekends.

When I was bored and lived in alone in California, I did go to the gym for two plus hours because I enjoyed my time at the UC Berkeley gym so much and I really needed the exercise high from the low I felt living there every day.

I cooked up quinoa with various veggies and chickpeas for my dinner. Craig also had his version with chickpeas, red peppers and tomatoes. He’s not too keen on my feta cheese, artichokes and kalamata olives.

I didn’t clean a lot over the weekend, so I accomplished something tonight by doing dishes and vacuuming. I hate having a dirty house. I can deal with piles and some things not being organized, but I hate seeing dirt in the form of dishes lying around and dirty surface areas.

That’s all I have for today. Hope you had a good Monday!

Kopps, I love you.

Friday recap…

Breakfast

it was my first time trying the vanilla Chobani flavor and I liked it–the vanilla wasn’t that prominent, but it also wasn’t overwhelming, as can be the case sometimes with vanilla flavored yogurts.

chobani vanilla, blueberries, coffee

My morning snack at work was just some Newman’s Own pretzels and a hot cocoa.

Lunch was a salad with feta, tomatoes, spinach, cucumbers and an olive oil/balsamic vinegar dressing I threw together. I had an applesauce, a bunch of carrot sticks and two pieces of yummy chocolate (kit kat and my fav moser roth). The kit kat wasn’t in the pic below because I got it from a co-worker. I figured, “it’s Friday, why not indulge in two pieces of chocolate!”

lunch

I came home to find lots of goodies–my package from Tina at Trading Up Downtown…

Sarabeth's tea, teapot

…and a new Glamour magazine in my mailbox.

Glamour

I paged through it and found this article to read.

Why is everyone going vegan?

I think I would like to try going vegan for a week or more and see how my body feels as a result. But, this article just left me craving red meat, which is a rare craving for me.

We didn’t eat dinner until 7 something…very unusual for us and I was starving. The red meat craving led me to craving the place where I could get the biggest cheeseburger that was thin and delicious in our area. No McD’s for this girl, so we headed to Kopps Frozen Custard. Not that it is any healthier, but it sure tasted delicious!

Mmm…pure food bliss.

We also indulged in vanilla custard. Sharing a dish was perfect! I really wanted Turtle Sundae flavored custard, but we compromised on vanilla.

“Date night” continued in the way that two geeks who are now married date. We headed to Best Buy nearby and walked around. I hadn’t been in there in ages. My husband loves technology and so do I, so I drooled over the Kindle, new phones, danced with the Kinect system, looked at cameras and majorly drooled over the Mac laptops.

Mac/Apple

I really need a new one soon to replace my 2004 iBookG4. She has lasted me a while, but is quite slow now. Yes she is a “she” because her name since day one has been Granny Smith.

When we left Best Buy, we saw this typical Wisconsin van. :)

GB packer van

I was a bum and didn’t work out last night. We watched the movie Going the Distance when we got home. Kind of cute. Craig thinks I look like Drew Barrymore in the movie, but mostly I just think we have the same hairstyle and I kind of speak like her sometimes.

Onto the Saturday recap.

Getting over the hump

Happy hump day! Only two more days and it’s the weekend. Is it wrong that I am already thinking about the weekend? It kind of stinks that I have to work on Sunday afternoon, but I’ll make the most of my Friday night and Saturday then.

Breakfast–plain old boring Cheerios and coffee. I didn’t feel like anything else.

cheerios, coffee

Snack at work was Nescafe instant coffee that I got free samples of through Thunderfap.com or one of those sites. I also had an Aldi trail mix bar. This bar is a bit sweet for me. I think I better look at the ingredients before buying again too.

nescafe taster's choice

Lunch was a whole wheat tortilla with refried beans, shredded cheddar cheese and of course, Frank’s Red Hot sauce. I also had a strawberry Chobani yogurt and added fresh blueberries to it. Dessert was a toffee Moser Roth chocolate bar from Aldi.

I meditated when I got home from work. Today, I practiced without my husband and I did well. I started out better than I did in the middle with controlling my thoughts. Don’t worry–I won’t talk about my meditation every day. I may just blog about any affects I have noticed from it over time.

Dinner was a banana with some nutella and breakfast taquitos. Blame my husband who buys those and was making them–I couldn’t resist the quick meal tonight.

I was going to go to the gym tonight, but decided I could really use a rest day to relax my body and also do dishes, organize coupons and read my book. I also had planned on (finally) leaving work early and then 3:30 hit and multiple e-mails came in that demanded my immediate attention. I wanted to go to Zumba, but that didn’t happen because getting out of work once again affected my workout schedule. And I wonder why I am counting down the days till the weekend.

When I was organizing my coupons, I realized I really need to find a good (cute) coupon organizer. Using the envelope system isn’t working so well right now. I think I am going to keep searching on Etsy.

So, it’s the part of the evening where Bill Bryson’s book is calling my name. Hope I don’t fall asleep while reading because I feel super tired right now.

Back to “the usual”

It’s time for me to get back into my routine, which I find awfully boring to present to my readers compared to traveling. Truthfully though, I actually seem to enjoy reading people’s routines and seeing their daily meals rather than hearing about their travels. Maybe it’s because I love traveling and I get a bit jealous?

Back to showing you my meals and talking about my regular day, including the workouts I am incorporating into my routine after a vacation without them.

I started out my morning back to work with some Honey Nut cheerios and a bowl of blueberries. I desperately wanted to make stove top oats with a banana and pb, but with having to scrape my car off for 20 minutes and de-ice, that wasn’t happening.

honey nut cheerios, bleuberries, coffee

Snack at work was a cup of hot cocoa with marshmallows and a trail mix bar.

Lunch was my leftovers from yesterday’s meal at The Cheesecake Factory and an apple. I also had a moser roth toffee chocolate bar for dessert.

apple and penne with veggies

I realized that before I left on our trip, I really was packing huge lunches at times. I think I am going to try cutting back a bit and watching my calories.

Dinner was a Strawberry Banana Chobani with a few cheerios on top and some of my naughty cheesecake.

Chobani strawberry banana with cheerios

My meal reflects this, but I was pressed for time because I stayed at work later and then had to get to my yoga class.

I had a piece of toast with peanut butter and a glass of chocolate milk when I got back from yoga.

chocolate milk, toast with peanut butter

Yoga tonight was excellent. I really love this teacher’s class because he always changes up the poses every week. I am always learning something new. My body needed yoga badly after our vacation! It felt so good to stretch.

Well folks, I need to start limiting my computer time and read a bit tonight since it’s already quite late.

Glad today is over

I am just glad the day is over. We still have one more aspect of the funeral tomorrow, the burial, but funerals are really hard to go to. I know it is this way for everyone in life and I need to accept that I will have more to go to in the coming years, some of which will be very difficult for me. It was nice to see old pictures of Craig’s grandma and hear stories about her I hadn’t heard before.

I started out the morning with Honey Nut Cheerios, fresh blueberries, and coffee.

cereal, blueberries, coffee

Before washing dishes, I snacked on some toast with Earth Balance and Danish Strawberry Rhubarb jam. I also had another cup of coffee.

toast and coffee

Lunch was a Black Cherry Chobani yogurt and a ham and cheese sandwich. I liked the Black Cherry flavor but think I prefer Strawberry Banana more because of my own personal preference for that flavor.

Haribo gummies followed.

Dinner was pure comfort food–frozen pizza and skim milk.

I also had a few Mint Oreos for dessert.

Not the best food day I guess, but that’s what you get for a stressful day with a funeral (and checking my work e-mail late tonight and responding to a bunch of messages).

I think I need to introduce meditation into my life to deal with the work aspect of stress I seem to have such trouble with. I actually am going to attend a free class on meditation and have Craig come along as support. With an already busy schedule, I am not sure how to fit meditation into my life, but I will try to. Anyone have a good balance down with meditation, gym, working full-time and have any advice to offer?

So, I didn’t discuss it on here yet, but you may have noticed I didn’t mention exercise habits during our trip. Basically, I went to the hotel gym on the first day we were there and never returned accept for their filtered water. Honestly, after walking probably over 7 miles most days, I didn’t feel like coming back to the hotel and working out. Also, working out in the morning could have been an option, but again, I was exhausted and we had to be at many places quite early. How do you deal with working out on vacations which already involve lots of walking the entire day?

Returning to the gym yesterday felt very good. I need to keep up the those good habits and make time for exercise. This week, I will need to work out in the morning two days because I am working late. I know I need to fit them in and will hold myself accountable to my workout plans.

Ok and now I am rambling. Time to log off and get ready for bed.

Off tomorrow!

My work already declared that they are closing tomorrow! Do you know what that means? I can sleep in, well except for waking up to feed the cats!

I left work early today and worked from home until 5. Tomorrow, I don’t have to work from home, but I will for a bit of the day. I think I’ll put in 3-4 hours tomorrow and then use the rest of the day to prepare for our upcoming trip! I also just want to use some of that time to read magazines. My magazine stack is huge!

Breakfast today was a mini bagel with strawberry cream cheese and a bowl full of fresh blueberries.

fresh blueberries, mini bagel, strawberry cream cheese, coffee

I was super busy at work, but I took a brief break for some hot chocolate and a jalapeno cornbread muffin.

Lunch was a buffalo tofu wrap with tons of spinach. I overestimated the amount of spinach I would need, but that’s ok, just more nutrients for my body! I also had a Granny Smith applesauce and a Raspberry Dark Chocolate attune bar for dessert.

Once home, I worked for a while, made some hot chocolate and had two Hermits from Newman’s Own Organics.

Love the back of the package! It cracked me up when I saw it!

Is it weird that I was really looking forward to watching Oprah today because it featured Michael Pollan and talked about her staffers going vegan for a week and how they felt as a result? Unfortunately, due to the blizzard news coverage, it got pushed to airing at 12:30 a.m. We don’t have DVR, so I won’t be watching that show except for maybe in a rerun. It really stinks that Oprah doesn’t have videos of her show available online. I guess I can always read the transcripts. Did anyone see it? If you did or plan to watch it on your DVR, can you please fill me in?

This is what our front yard and my poor little Honda Fit looked like this afternoon. This is nothing because we’ll be adding 12-16 inches on top of this already high amount of snow!

car and snow

On his way home from work, Craig called and asked if I could start making some frozen pierogies.

cooking pierogies

Mrs. T's potato and cheddar pierogies

This was our first time buying frozen pierogies. I was the one that pushed buying them. Craig is ancestrally half Polish and I don’t think he ever had a pierogie until tonight. I had had them before, but it’s been a while.

pierogies

They were yummy, but three pierogies didn’t make a dinner. We are trying to use up food before our trip, so I didn’t have a lot of fresh food to pair with my pierogies.

Instead I made his and hers berry smoothies with Soy protein powder. I added frozen mixed berries, blueberries, almond milk and pineapple.

While Craig snowblowed, I read the February issue of Woman’s Day.

Woman's Day

One of the quotes from a love story in the magazine sounded very familiar.

quote from Woman's Day

My husband and I knew each other in high school. We had algebra together and he sat behind me. We never dated. Nine years later, I moved back from California and in with my parents, who were now living in a town other than the one I grew up in. While perusing our high school alma mater grads on MySpace, my husband happened to see the name of the town I lived in and he recognized my picture from high school. He had been working in the town my parents now live in for 8 years at that point. Craig had been down the road the whole time and I never knew it. After e-mailing each other daily, we met for ice cream a couple of weeks later and the rest is history. He even proposed at the ice cream place we met at. :)

Ok, I am feeling like my writing isn’t so great and I am getting tired. Time to read a few blogs and then disconnect.

I’ll be back tomorrow with a snow day recap!

Monday off

I had this Monday off because I work on Saturday. I am also hoping for this Wednesday off because of the snow!

Originally, I wanted to treat myself to a matinee movie of The King’s Speech. Those plans all changed as I ate the breakfast below (Stonyfield plain yogurt with Jessica’s almond cherry granola, fresh blueberries, chia seeds and a bit of almond milk; coffee; and a jalapeno cornbread muffin I had to save for a mid-morning snack because I was too full from my main meal).

yogurt with granola, chia seeds, blueberries; jalapeno cornbread muffin; coffee

You see, the last in the trilogy of the Stieg Larsson books was due back to the library today. I still had about 150 pages to read. Well, I stayed on the couch, snuggled with Karma and read the rest of the book. It moved fast at the end, but I think I read for about an hour and a half straight!

By the time I finished reading, I really felt like moving and going to the gym instead of showering and heading to a movie theater to sit for two hours. I sat enough (and napped) all weekend! The gym was calling me and I headed there for a good two hours.

Before the gym, I needed something to hold me over until the end of my workout. I snacked on half of a peanut butter cookie Larabar.

peanut butter cookie larabar

Walking into the gym, a cute little toddler girl was walking out way ahead of her mom and into the round driveway where cars pull up quite often. I looked at her mom’s face and immediately turned around to stop the little girl. It was a scary moment for her mom, who was tied up with a little boy in her arm. She was very grateful for what I did and then the guy who checked me into the Y said to me, “you saved that little girl.” It was my good deed for the day.

I worked out on the elliptical for 45 minutes. Blame HGTV and an American looking for a house in the French countryside. Aaah, they get me every time with International House Hunters. I also did a full circuit of weights and then called it quits, because it was a little after 1 p.m. at this point.

The snow was coming down pretty badly when I was driving back and I was glad to get off the slushy roads. Sadly, this is just the beginning of the snow for us this week!

For lunch, I made a buffalo tofu wrap for lunch with a whole wheat tortilla, spinach and swiss cheese.

buffalo tofu with spinach, swiss cheese, whole wheat tortilla

This meal filled me up! I probably will bring the same thing for lunch tomorrow too. Tofu is the perfect food for me because I normally don’t eat a lot of protein and subsequently, don’t feel full and want to snack a couple of hours after a meal. With tofu, I always feel full until my next meal.

After lunch, I got to work on dumping photographs from iPhoto onto my Lacie hard drive. I really need to make photo books out of each season or year. Otherwise, digital photos just sit on my hard drive. Blogging has also caused rows and rows of food pictures to sit in my iPhoto. I need to clear those off my computer, because really, what am I going to do with all of them?

I headed out in the snow again to return my book and dvd to the library. Then it was time to shovel some of the driveway until my hands were so freezing cold that I couldn’t stand it anymore.

Off to get ready to head out again with Craig! We’re going to look at one more eyeglass place and then hopefully order some new glasses for him tonight.

Hope you had a good Monday!

Zumbathon

It’s late and I just got home from a Zumbathon in downtown Milwaukee, which was sponsored by Lululemon. There were probably 100 plus women and men there tonight! Crazy!

My friends Kim (who is a Zumba instructor) and Jenny (middle) joined me (on the right).

Kim, Jenny, Lisa Zumbathon

We danced in the Astor Hotel ballroom for an hour and fifteen minutes. Jenny is new to Zumba too. Even though I probably have done it 7 or 8 times now, I had trouble keeping up because there were so many new songs they played. It was fun, put a smile on my face and great to workout with friends.

Astor Hotel Zumbathon

Before picking Jenny up for the Zumbathon, I headed to the Milwaukee Public Market for the second day in a row. This time I got dinner there at The Green Kitchen.

The Green Kitchen

Rye bread (so delicious) with avocado, carrots, sprouts, tomato, and two types of cheese.

The Green Kitchen sandwich

Rewind to lunch…I didn’t take a photo, but it was the rest of my Subway footlong from yesterday, a bunch of carrots and a Dannon Activia vanilla dessert yogurt. Later in the afternoon, I snacked on a pink lady apple and a mint chocolate attune bar.

Breakfast today was fresh blueberries & Jessica’s Gluten Free Granola in Almond Cherry. I think I liked the Vanilla Maple flavor better, but this was still really good.

IMG_3272

That’s all folks. It’s time to relax a little and then get to bed. I can’t believe how quickly this week has gone by. I guess it’s because I have been working weird hours and been doing stuff after work a couple of days this week.
