So happy

I leapt out of bed this morning (after hitting the snooze button a couple of times) and was so happy to start my day. Note: I haven’t felt like this in ages. The vacation in two days is giving me an extra reason to be joyous! I love to travel and especially to someplace warm with my husband in the middle of this icky Midwestern winter. I don’t know why, but I kept singing “on the good ship, lollipop” to my husband and cats this morning. Yes, I am weird and admit it. I don’t talk about my weirdness on my blog much, but my husband and I can be quite quirky together and that’s what makes life fun. Anyway…must have had a dream about the good ship lollipop or something.

Breakfast this morning was the absolute last of Jessica’s gluten free granola in my favorite flavor. I saved the best for last and had the Vanilla Maple. :( I’ll have to make my own granola and look for Jessica’s at Whole Foods.

Snack at work was a candy cane hot chocolate and the rest of the Newman’s Own cheddar soy crisps.

Newman's Own Organics soy crisps cheddar

Lunch today was the pizza we had for dinner last night, a pink lady apple and two pitas with greek olive Sabra hummus. The hummus definitely was the key to filling me up at lunch.

pizza, pink lady apple

After work, I changed and went straight to the gym. I did kind of what I did last night–biked for 18 minutes, walked/ran on the treadmill for 10, rowed for 5 minutes and lifted weights.

Dinner was a Boca Bruschetta burger on an Arnold’s Thin & a cup of skim milk.

milk, Boca bruschetta veggie burger

Plus this larabar. I plan on bringing a bunch of these on our trip, so I wanted to make sure I liked this flavor.

Dessert was Newman’s Own Organics Super Dark chocolate with Reese’s pb chips.

I also had an airborne because I feel like I am getting sick and that cannot happen right now.

My food has been kind of random lately and it’s because we have been cleaning out our cabinets, fridge and freezer before this trip. For some reason, I just feel better doing that before a big trip and then we can start fresh with a big trip to the grocery store when we return.

I am off tomorrow so I can get a mini mani/pedi in the morning, head to the mall for a bit, pack for the trip, do laundry and clean up the house. Then it’s off to Florida bright and early on Friday morning!

Short post

Just a short post from me today because it’s been a busy one. Normally, I can start my post for the day on my lunch break, but I didn’t do that today. I was so busy at work and my mind was racing on my lunch break, so I read blogs instead of starting a post.

Breakfast was Jessica’s gluten free granola in the Almond Cherry flavor with skim milk and coffee.

Lunch looks huge, but wasn’t really. I had a Boca Bruschetta veggie burger on an Arnold’s Thin with a chipolte Laughing Cow cheese. I had some more of the Vegetable Medley with chiles, a Granny Smith applesauce and the raspberry chocolate attune probiotic bar. Ok, maybe that was a lot of food. I tended to overpack this morning and saved half of the veggies and a yogurt I threw in later for my lunch tomorrow.

boca bruschetta, applesauce, veggies, attune bar, laughing cow, arnold's thin

Dinner had to be fast because I worked later, drove home through the still not so greatly plowed streets and then had to eat and get to the Y.

I had the last of the buffalo tofu on a whole wheat tortilla with spinach and a piece of swiss cheese. More buffalo sauce was poured on top, of course.

buffalo tofu wrap

I ran to the Y, secured two spots in yoga class, and met my friend Danielle for yoga with my favorite teacher. She hasn’t taken that many yoga classes before, so she was learning the poses as we went. Whenever I do yoga I think to myself, “I should do this every day.” I wish I had more time in my day so that would be possible, because I also need to incorporate exercises that get my heart rate up and strength train. After class, we walked the track for a while and caught up on our lives.

Now it’s nearly bed time and I apologize for the boring post, but I need to relax some more and then get a good night’s rest. I have a big event at work the next two days, so I need my sleep!

More Zumba

Oh Friday, how I longed for you all week!

I started out my last day of the work week with a lot of Jessica’s chocolate chip granola. (I over-poured the milk on accident and had to compensate). I also had some cantaloupe because it has to be eaten up before it goes bad.

Jessica's gluten free granola chocolate chip; cantaloupe; coffee

Lunch was a spinach salad with grape tomatoes, Athenos hummus, Athenos feta cheese, cucumber slices and green pepper. I also added a Musselman’s Granny Smith Applesauce and Dannon Activia Dessert yogurt in Vanilla Bean to my lunch bag.

Musselman's Granny Smith applesauce, salad, Dannon Activia Vanilla bean, attune raspberry chocolate bar

My real dessert wasn’t that Dannon yogurt because it’s not very dessert like to me. Instead I tried the Raspberry Dark Chocolate attune bar out. I would say it is equally as tasty as the mint chocolate one.

When I got home from work, I quickly did a load of laundry, some dishes and cleaned in general. I was clearly in a cleaning mood! I like to get as much done as possible before the weekend so I can enjoy it.

I snacked on some Pomegranate Newman’s Own Organics licorice.

Dinner was a Boca cheeseburger with Swiss cheese on an Arnold’s Thin.

Zumba tonight with Angie was fun! I can’t believe I did Zumba two days in a row. I feel like an addict. There were a lot of new songs and moves again.

Tomorrow morning, I am getting my hair highlighted, which will eat up half of the day because it’s at a beauty school. It’s half the price of a regular salon and I need to read The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet’s Nest anyway, so I don’t mind if it takes a little longer than normal.

Zumbathon

It’s late and I just got home from a Zumbathon in downtown Milwaukee, which was sponsored by Lululemon. There were probably 100 plus women and men there tonight! Crazy!

My friends Kim (who is a Zumba instructor) and Jenny (middle) joined me (on the right).

Kim, Jenny, Lisa Zumbathon

We danced in the Astor Hotel ballroom for an hour and fifteen minutes. Jenny is new to Zumba too. Even though I probably have done it 7 or 8 times now, I had trouble keeping up because there were so many new songs they played. It was fun, put a smile on my face and great to workout with friends.

Astor Hotel Zumbathon

Before picking Jenny up for the Zumbathon, I headed to the Milwaukee Public Market for the second day in a row. This time I got dinner there at The Green Kitchen.

The Green Kitchen

Rye bread (so delicious) with avocado, carrots, sprouts, tomato, and two types of cheese.

Rewind to lunch…I didn’t take a photo, but it was the rest of my Subway footlong from yesterday, a bunch of carrots and a Dannon Activia vanilla dessert yogurt. Later in the afternoon, I snacked on a pink lady apple and a mint chocolate attune bar.

Breakfast today was fresh blueberries & Jessica’s Gluten Free Granola in Almond Cherry. I think I liked the Vanilla Maple flavor better, but this was still really good.

That’s all folks. It’s time to relax a little and then get to bed. I can’t believe how quickly this week has gone by. I guess it’s because I have been working weird hours and been doing stuff after work a couple of days this week.

Go Packers!

The game is on and I actually didn’t go to the gym during it. I’ll watch most, if not all of it and then head to the gym. Go Packers!

I started my day with a bowl of oats topped with fresh blueberries and chia seeds. I used my China Starbucks cup because I needed a huge cup of coffee. The cats woke us up at 6:15 and I couldn’t sleep anyway, so I got up. I figured it was better that way for waking up at 5:40 tomorrow.

coffee, oatmeal, blueberries, chia seeds

Later in the morning, I snacked on Jessica’s granola and had another cup of coffee.

I headed out of the house to run some errands to Sears, Penzey’s Spices and Sendik’s grocery store.

At Sears, I got the Golla Lynne camera bag I wanted before our trip to Florida!

Golla Lynne camera bag

Before leaving the house, I used the Sears 2 go shopping site on my iPod touch & loaded the page showing the Sears associated CSN linked site for the Golla Lynne camera bag. They had a sale on the bag for $41.99 and Sears itself did not. I asked for the price match and got it. Sweet! The bag was “free” anyway because I got a Sears gift card from my credit card points.

Here is the back of the bag, where a small pocket is.

Golla Lynne camera bag

Here is a somewhat fuzzy picture of the interior color and style. It is roomy enough to hold a DSLR camera and a lens (someday we’ll buy the big lens, I hope).

Golla Lynne camera bag inside

I like how the bag sits on my hip and doesn’t feel heavy. I think I will end up using it as a camera bag and purse on our trip. The front pocket has more than enough room for my purse items, as long as I stay minimalistic.

At Penzey’s Spices, I got this nice 1 oz. jar of minced garlic for free. Thanks to their catalog coupons, I have built up a nice collection of spices and most of them were free.

Penzey's minced garlic spice and penzey's spices catalog

If you don’t already get their catalog in the mail, I would encourage anyone to sign up for it to get the free spices and excellent recipes inside. You don’t have to purchase anything to get the free spices either, so that’s an added bonus. The quality of their spices is excellent.

At Sendik’s grocery store, I found this very green and gold display, so I couldn’t resist taking a picture.

Those are green and yellow peppers packaged together.

Once home, I used some of the spinach I just bought to make a green monster smoothie. I put Silk almond milk, Whole Foods soy protein powder, a half of a frozen banana, some frozen pineapple and ice cubes in it.

I didn’t realize it until I was taking these pictures–maybe the green smoothie with yellow pineapple will be good luck for the Packers!

His and hers smoothies. I always have the large size. My husband doesn’t eat spinach in salads or on sandwiches, but I can get him to drink it in this smoothie. I have found through all of my green monster experimentation–I prefer the flavor of plain almond milk in the smoothie vs. skim cow’s milk.

lucky green monster smoothies

I don’t think I have ever posted a green monster smoothie on here before. I always make them in the summer, but it’s hard to drink cold smoothies during the winter.

And I realize this post is getting very long, so I will end it with a picture of the pizza I ate while watching the beginning of the Packers vs. Bears game.

pizza and packers

Later on, I’ll go to the gym for some elliptical, biking and weights.

The Pack is in the lead at 14-0 right now, so let’s hope we win the game! If you read my blog, you know I am not a huge football fan and neither is my husband. But, for the sake of my home state’s very dedicated football fans, I hope we win.

My husband is a saint

I was certainly tired this morning, as predicted. Woke up, fed the kitties, and went back to bed for a while. My legs hurt, but I tried something new last night with switching shoe types halfway through the night and I think that helped. In the end, the event I coordinated went very well and these events always have the potential to be stressful if one little thing goes wrong, so I was relieved.

For two hours or so this morning, my husband worked on a house project. Seriously, I know someone might be reading this thinking, that’s no big deal. The guy stood on the couch and figured out how to hang these pictures perfectly, despite d-rings not hung the same on the big picture, etc. We could have ended up with completely crooked pictures that would have bugged me for years, but thanks to his precision, we didn’t. I can’t do these kind of projects, so therefore, he is a saint to me.

We went from having this depressing photo above the couch.

Believe it or not, we ran around to all of these hardware stores last weekend, only to find that the pictures already had d-rings and the little zig zag picture hangers on the back (they were covered up with cardboard and we were scared to rip it away for fear that we would destroy something on the back of the picture). Craig finally pulled one back this morning and discovered the picture hangers already there. ARGH! We laughed about it in the end, but the instructions on the picture just weren’t that clear.

Breakfast was a big cup of coffee in my Jonathan Adler Starbucks cup and some Jessica’s granola. Are you sick of seeing it yet? I am not sick of eating it!

Starbucks Jonathan Adler cup, Jessica's gluten free granola

Lunch was iced coffee and about half of this bowl of the quinoa dish. My husband had the other half. He was starving from working so hard all morning. I also had the rest of the Blueberry Stonyfield yogurt with the last of the pom arils. I finished up lots of items from our fridge today.

After lunch, I snacked on some tangerine and strawberry licorice from Newman’s Own Organics.

Newman's Own Organics licorice

They are very yummy! I haven’t tried the pomegranate and black yet, but will report back when I do. What I like about their products overall is that even candy like licorice doesn’t taste too sweet. I like sweet things, don’t get me wrong, but my palette has changed since eating better.

Thanks Newman’s Own Organics! :)

I just lounged around in the afternoon, did laundry, etc. The usual Saturday, except that I tried to rest my legs as much as possible. I read part of the Sedaris book and wasn’t into it, so I quit it. I’ll put more time into finishing Larsson instead.

Around 3, I finally got out of the house and did some grocery shopping. I meal planned first. I picked out a Vegetable Medley with chiles recipe from Clean Start by Terry Walters.

Clean Start by Terry Walters

It has parsnips in it, which I have never cooked with, so that’s exciting. I might make it for dinner tomorrow.

I also took a look at our pantry to see what to use up and pair with things I would buy at the store. We had two falafel boxes, so I decided to get the ingredients for falfafel sandwiches and make them for dinner tonight.

falafel sandwich

My pita contained about three falafel patties, grape tomatoes, Athenos hummus, a chive and yogurt dill dip that I made from the recipe on the falafel box, & lettuce. Craig didn’t want the hummus and the dip, but that’s the best part in my opinion!

My dessert was one of these. Holy yum! Hadn’t tried this flavor before and it’s delicious. I love these little ice cream sandwiches. Perfect dessert portion to keep me from eating more!

Tofutti cuties mint chocolate chip

I was kind of bummed that I didn’t make it to the gym today. I’ll do a longer workout tomorrow. Maybe I will go when the Packers and Bears are playing because I might be the only person there! :)

Hope you all had a great Saturday!

Brrr, it’s cold outside & a perfect day for soup

It’s a soup kind of day…with temperatures the coldest they have been all winter, my body craved soup this morning.

So, I pulled out some Minestrone from the cabinet and packed it for lunch.

I also had some grape tomatoes, pita chips and a chocolate chip cookie.

Breakfast was Jessica’s granola again. I can’t get enough of the stuff!

For those of you interested in the nutritional stats on the Vanilla Maple Jessica’s gluten free granola flavor, here they are:

Morning snack was about 5 or 6 dried apricots and a Yogi green tea kombucha.

I got a big craving for chocolate mid-afternoon (blame it on the long email I had been writing compiling lots of stats and comments).

So it was off to the candy shop at my work. It was either milk duds or a $7.00 bar of chocolate that the cashier said was “just ok.” Milk duds it was!

Milk Duds

When I got home from work, I found another package on our doorstep. It wasn’t something I won, but a package from Amazon which contained a yoga book for my husband and this book for me to read on our trip to Florida:

The Omnivore's Dilemma by Pollan

Karma wanted to read the new David Sedaris book because it’s about animals. I still have to finish the Larsson book, but will get started on Sedaris soon and just read two books at once. I need a funny book after this rough and tiring week! David Sedaris was on CBS Sunday Morning a couple of weeks ago and that man just cracks me up. I think I have read almost all of his books and my favorite is Me Talk Pretty One Day.

I finally made a quinoa dish for dinner tonight. It contained TJ’s organic quinoa, grape tomatoes, chickpeas, feta, mozzarella, dried basil, garlic and a few Penzey’s spices. I topped it with olive oil, balsamic vinegar and a little sea salt. Every time I eat quinoa, I think to myself, “I need to eat this more, it is so good.” I love it’s versatility. I don’t think I have ever made the same quinoa dish. I just use whatever ingredients we have that go together well.

quinoa with tomatoes, feta, mozzarella, dried basil, penzey's spices, balsamic, olive oil

My picky eater husband even ate it! I think this is the first time he has ever had chickpeas. I told him they didn’t really taste like anything particular and he bought it.

And because I can’t stay away from this stuff, I had more of Jessica’s granola for dessert tonight.

dessert Jessica's vanilla maple nutrition

Then it was off to yoga. My favorite teacher still wasn’t there tonight, but we had the teacher whose class I go to on Saturday mornings from time to time. Class was empty, but the gym itself was packed. Probably the most packed it has ever been since I have been going there for four months and I was surprised because the wind chill is probably in negative temperatures tonight.

Time to start reading the first chapter of the Sedaris book called “The Cat and the Baboon.”

Tomorrow, I’ll be blogging in the morning if I have time. I have to work mid-afternoon until midnight. Probably an eleven hour day and I am on my feet for so much of that time. After these particular events, I am just so tired all weekend and achy.

Granola goodness

Today was better than yesterday, but there were still some weird things going on at work. The moon is still full and will be for another day, so I guess I just have to suck it up and deal with issues like I have been.

Breakfast was boring–Kashi Autumn Wheat with coffee.

Kashi Autumn Wheat and coffee

Snack was a few dried apricots and another cup of coffee at work.

Lunch was leftovers of German Potato Salad, a slice of pizza, green peppers and a pink lady apple.

pink lady, pizza, german potato salad, green peppers

We had an all-staff meeting at work and they served mostly healthy foods :) (usually it’s cookies and some grapes), so I had a bunch of fruit salad and some pasta salad with veggies. The berries in the fruit salad hit the spot. I miss summer fruits. :(

When I got home from work, I was excited to find a package on my doorstep!!

It was the Jessica’s gluten free granola I won from clean eating chelsey!

Jessica's gluten free granola

Jessica even wrote a nice, handwritten note. Love getting packages with handwritten notes! Thanks Jessica.

She mentioned that the Milwaukee Whole Foods will have her products soon, so that is exciting for all of you local readers!

I raced to the gym to make the 5 p.m. Zumba class. It was ok. I really preferred the music and dance steps from the class I took last week with a different teacher. I struggled to keep up with some songs I hadn’t heard before.

Dinner was fettuccine alfredo again. I got home from the gym around 6:20, so I was super hungry and again, dinner had to be quick. I keep wanting to make a more elaborate quinoa dish for dinner this week and it’s just not happening.

fettuccine alfredo

Dessert was exciting (unlike my boring breakfast)–Jessica’s Vanilla Maple granola with some skim milk. It was so tasty that I went back for seconds. I can’t wait to try the other flavors too!

Jessica's Vanilla Maple granola

Craig is watching American Idol and I guess I am too because I just so happen to be blogging from our living room, per usual. I am most excited to see the Milwaukee auditions next week. They take place at my former workplace–the Milwaukee Art Museum. I was in the background while they were filming an interview outside of the Bradley Center, so maybe I will even be on TV, but I highly doubt it!

Feeling lucky

I guess it has been my lucky week! I just logged onto WordPress to write this post and saw that I had a lot of referrals from Clean Eating Chelsey. Some of them said winner in the link and I clicked over to discover that out of 200 people, I won her blog giveaway for Jessica’s Natural Granola! I am super excited to try it!! I’ll definitely post reviews of all of the yummy flavors I get to taste. Love that Jessica’s is a Midwestern company based out of Michigan!

Yesterday, I went into work late in the afternoon and logged onto my work computer to find one lonely e-mail in my inbox (believe me, this is rare and this occurred because I had checked e-mails from home before going in, so I cleared a bunch out). The subject said that I won a book from a blog giveaway. It is a blog that is specific to my field and the author of the book writes the blog…she’s one of those people that is doing great things in my field, so I am excited to learn more through reading her book!

So, I guess a super busy week that flew by and seemed exhausting at times ended up being really lucky for me. :)

After working the last two evenings in a row and then babysitting on Tuesday, it feels so good to be home, sitting in my sweats and blogging from the couch.

This morning, I woke up pretty tired after about only 7 hours of sleep last night. Breakfast today was cereal and much needed coffee.

coffee and cereal

At work, I had another cup of coffee, half of a granola bar and a delicious brownie that someone brought in for us to munch on during our event.

Since I worked part of the day on Sunday & additional hours during the evening events, I was able to leave work at 12:30 today and that was so nice! I wish I could do that every Friday. :)

I ate lunch at home–a Boca cheeseburger on an Arnold’s Thin with pepper jack cheese, tomato, chipolte mayo and a bit of Frank’s Red Hot.

I also had some Stonyfield Blueberry yogurt with fresh blueberries on the side. I am trying to use up the blueberries before they go bad!

Dessert was one of the chocolate chip cookies I made earlier this week.

me with chocolate chip cookie

After washing some dishes, throwing in a load of laundry, and a brief nap with the cats piled on top of me, it was off to Kohl’s to use this bad boy:

Kohl's coupon

Alas, I wasn’t lucky finding anything there. It always seems to be that way when I have the 30% off! I was hoping to find some cute shirts to wear on our upcoming trip to Florida. Oh well.

I got some fresh veggies and fruits from the grocery store, headed back home and made white cheese and noodles for dinner.

Ate it with a side of lots of veggies because my body needed them today.

veggies and white cheesy noodles

Oh and I picked up some raspberry Kefir at the store to make my tummy happy.

Time to turn on the Wii and do some EA Active 2. I figured I have neglected it lately and have been to the Y so much in the last two weeks. After that, it’s time to catch up with blogs in my google reader because I am behind on reading them. And finally, since I am a nerd and a homebody on the weekend, I’ll read more of my Stieg Larsson book. It’s getting good! Just a nice chill Friday night here.

Have a wonderful Friday evening and a great weekend.
