Sleepy St. Patrick’s Day

It’s a little after 8 p.m. and hard to believe I have been on the couch asleep for the last two hours. Boo. I ate dinner and then just crashed. Unfortunately, so did my husband and we both woke up at 7:45 after sleeping for a while. Anyone else feel so tired this week? My co-workers have all been telling me they’re unusually tired too. Could it be the time change? Weather change? I even got more sleep last night!

So, no gym tonight. Which meant no yoga and now I am sad. Good thing I have trainer Bob’s Yoga Warrior dvd checked out from the library. Maybe I’ll pop him into the dvd player after this quick post.

Breakfast–I officially want greek yogurt for breakfast every morning this week. I had it again with the wild blueberry preserves. It fills me up just perfectly so my tummy isn’t growling at work. Plus, I just haven’t been in the oatmeal mood lately. Again, probably due to the warmer weather.

Snack time was the “usual” for this week too. I seem to be in a routine with my eats.

Loved this quote, which reminded me of a story my co-worker told me today.

A sweet co-worker of mine who is also interested in nutrition borrows me the Nutrition Action newsletter. She brought me in their healthy foods bonus section along with the newest newsletter. I read through the healthy foods pamphlet on my morning break and they scored various foods, which reminds me of NuVal. Top food items in each category include:

Fruit: Guava
Veggies: Kale (spinach is right behind it)
Beans: Soybeans (pinto is next)
Grains: Quinoa
Leanest meats: Turkey breast

No surprise with these choices, huh?

Speaking of turkey breast, I had some deli turkey meat on a Flat Out wrap for lunch. I added Frank’s Red Hot, spinach, tomatoes and provolone cheese. Yummy!

I also had a Strawberry Banana chobani yogurt and carrot sticks.

I ate my lunch among co-workers at the library story time session. Today’s story was a love story set in China. Good story, but I couldn’t keep my eyes open. I swore it was the tryptophan in my turkey, but maybe I was just plain tired (as was evidenced from my long nap tonight).

At an afternoon work meeting, I snacked on the red grapes and a toffee bar. I also had some coca-cola to wake me up. I drink soda about once a month, if that, and it’s in situations like the one today where I was sooo tired and it was offered for free so I couldn’t pass it up.

And for dinner, I totally didn’t feel like eating much. I snacked on some tortilla chips and Herdez green salsa. I then had more of the same meal I had for breakfast. My tummy just wants yogurt lately, so much that I realize I had it three times today.

I guess the blog post evidences that I felt kind of “off” today in general.

With that, it’s time to get this post published and get some stuff done around here so the whole night isn’t wasted.

Did you go out and celebrate this St. Patrick’s Day? I never do, but I was surprised at how empty the roads into work were this morning. I guess a lot of people took off to party!

Eye candy

What an indulgent weekend. Last night, I indulged in yummy food with a Kopps cheeseburger and vanilla custard.

Today, I indulged in the best eye candy: Matt Damon in The Adjustment Bureau. (Side story: after I told my parents I liked the movie, my dad told my mom that I could have gone to see a still picture of Matt Damon up on the movie screen, stared at it for two hours, and still would have come out so happy). I went to see his new movie with my friend Laurie this afternoon.

We both really liked it a lot. In fact, it was really different than we both expected it to be, but in a good way. Even though it’s considered scifi/fantasy and not realistic, it got me thinking outside the box. Those are the best kind of movies. I went to the grocery store after dropping Laurie off and felt so weird. I felt like I was controlling how things happened to me, including needing a Kashi cereal box off the back of the shelf, trying to get it and a man instantly coming over to lift up his son to get it for me. I don’t know why, but the movie made me feel so odd and contemplative the whole time I grocery shopped!

Rewind to this morning–my tummy hurt a bit this morning from the Kopps cheeseburger. My body definitely doesn’t love red meat and I blame it on my colitis. I have problems digesting it and know this, but sometimes my body just needs red meat, like last night. I pay the consequences in the end and did this morning. I didn’t feel sick, but my tummy just hurt and I did not feel like going to the gym in that condition.

I had raisin bread, a black cherry chobani and coffee for breakfast.

So, I showered, got ready for the day and we went to a local flower shop to pick up this beautiful “spring garden” plant.

Craig’s work kindly sent us this plant in sympathy for his grandma’s passing. Now we are reminded of her by this beautiful spring plant. Makes me want spring to come soon so we can plant flowers and our vegetable garden!

I also popped in Sentry grocery store for some more greek yogurt–this time it was Athenos brand instead of Chobani on sale for $1. This will be my first time trying it, so I’ll let you know my opinion. Have you tried it yet?

Then it was time to do laundry, dishes, clean up and get ready to head out of the house again for the movie.

Oh and I ate a burrito and KIND plus bar before heading back out.

KIND plus bar

Loved that bar…I ordered a bunch from drugstore.com, along with some cashew cookie larabars, the weleda lavender oil and some cleansing cloths for my face. All were natural products because I got a shopping bag full of all natural food and beauty samples. If the deal is still on–check it out and just order a certain amount of natural products to get yours free.

Dinner tonight was homemade pizza. My half had mushrooms, red peppers and pepperoni.

Washed the pizza down with an Amber woodchuck cider. Aaah, made me a bit buzzed. I was super happy and chatty.

Meditation calmed me down and sobered me up. Boo. I was enjoying my buzz!

What a nice little Saturday!

Almost bedtime–have a good rest of your weekend. I’ll be blogging sometime tomorrow, but I also have to work in the afternoon, so it may be later at night.

Haircut & lunch with mom

I started my Wednesday with a mini bagel and strawberry cream cheese, with a side of cantaloupe.

Instead of going to work at my usual time, I got my haircut at 8 a.m.

Before leaving the house, Craig took a picture of my “before” hair.

Here is my after.

I really liked the new stylist I went to this morning. She gave me more face framing layers, even though she could tell I was scared of getting them back again because I have had very short layers around my face before and they didn’t look good.

In order to get free parking at the Milwaukee Public Market while I got my haircut nearby, I bought this delicious Door County Cherry scone at C. Adams bakery and had my parking ticket validated.

Love anything with Door County cherries in it! I snacked on it at work, because the cup of coffee I had while getting my haircut made me a bit shaky. I can’t wait to eat the other half tomorrow.

Lunch was with mom. She came to my workplace and then we walked to Subway for sandwiches.

I had half (and a few bites of the other half) a ham and provolone on 9-grain honey oat.

I am not a huge fan of black licorice, so I brought my mom the package I received from Newman’s Own Organics. I did try a few bites and it was really good.

Mom was in black licorice heaven.

Mom is a great quilter and sewer, so I asked her to make me a yoga mat strap. She brought it along today and here is the end result.

Since I went into work late, I had to stay late. I had some hot chocolate and an attune probiotic mint chocolate bar to perk me up.

attune bars

Yum! I really enjoyed the attune bar. I will be trying them for the next two weeks straight, so you’ll see a bar on the blog every day now. I hope it helps my tummy! I wrote attune when I heard about them through Meals and Miles and they sent me a week of raspberry dark chocolate and a week of mint chocolate probiotic bars.

I haven’t revealed this on the blog before–I have Ulcerative Colitis. I need all of the probiotics I can get. Having Irritable Bowel Disease is one of the other reasons I wanted to start this blog. Since eating healthier and exercising more in the last year or so, I have noticed a difference in how I feel with IBD. I am glad I can track what I eat every day and how I feel in general through writing this blog.

Dinner tonight was a falafel sandwich.

Dessert was a tofutti mint chip sandwich and some cantaloupe.

American Idol is airing their Milwaukee episode and I have to go watch it now! No sighting of me in the background of any shots yet. Bummer. :(
