Granola goodness

Today was better than yesterday, but there were still some weird things going on at work. The moon is still full and will be for another day, so I guess I just have to suck it up and deal with issues like I have been.

Breakfast was boring–Kashi Autumn Wheat with coffee.

Snack was a few dried apricots and another cup of coffee at work.

Lunch was leftovers of German Potato Salad, a slice of pizza, green peppers and a pink lady apple.

We had an all-staff meeting at work and they served mostly healthy foods :) (usually it’s cookies and some grapes), so I had a bunch of fruit salad and some pasta salad with veggies. The berries in the fruit salad hit the spot. I miss summer fruits. :(

When I got home from work, I was excited to find a package on my doorstep!!

It was the Jessica’s gluten free granola I won from clean eating chelsey!

Jessica even wrote a nice, handwritten note. Love getting packages with handwritten notes! Thanks Jessica.

She mentioned that the Milwaukee Whole Foods will have her products soon, so that is exciting for all of you local readers!

Karma sniffed around right after I set up for my photo.

Tanzi wanted in on the action too.

I raced to the gym to make the 5 p.m. Zumba class. It was ok. I really preferred the music and dance steps from the class I took last week with a different teacher. I struggled to keep up with some songs I hadn’t heard before.

Dinner was fettuccine alfredo again. I got home from the gym around 6:20, so I was super hungry and again, dinner had to be quick. I keep wanting to make a more elaborate quinoa dish for dinner this week and it’s just not happening.

Dessert was exciting (unlike my boring breakfast)–Jessica’s Vanilla Maple granola with some skim milk. It was so tasty that I went back for seconds. I can’t wait to try the other flavors too!

Craig is watching American Idol and I guess I am too because I just so happen to be blogging from our living room, per usual. I am most excited to see the Milwaukee auditions next week. They take place at my former workplace–the Milwaukee Art Museum. I was in the background while they were filming an interview outside of the Bradley Center, so maybe I will even be on TV, but I highly doubt it!

Snowy afternoon

The roads were nice and quiet driving into downtown Milwaukee this morning. For those of you who were off, hope you had a nice day. Maybe you even volunteered your time in honor of MLK’s philosophies. A lot of people seemed to be off for MLK day. We consider MLK day a minor holiday at my work and I earn holiday hours, but everyone seems to go in.

I started my sleepy Monday with Kashi Autumn Wheat cereal and coffee.

Snack at work was a handful of raw almonds and another cup of coffee. I was tired this morning because I didn’t get to bed on time last night. Blame sleeping in on the weekend for making my schedule wacky. I’ll get back on schedule tonight and read before falling asleep around 9:45.

Lunch was a Morningstar black bean burger, a Stonyfield Strawberries and Cream yogurt (yum, loved this flavor) and some grape tomatoes. I still had a craving for something sweet, so I had a sugar free caramel pudding.

Loved this quote on the inside of my Stonyfield lid. Reminds me of the portion distortion class I attended in the fall at the YMCA.

I wish I had been off today because on my way home, my little Honda and I had to battle the snow storm. I went really slow and took the freeway home because it was much clearer than our sloppy side roads. My car just doesn’t like the slushy roads.

Once home, I shoveled so my husband could pull in the driveway and then he finished the rest when he got home. I was hungry for dinner and it had to be quick, so there went my plans for quinoa with tofu, chickpeas, tomatoes, etc. I made some fettuccine alfredo and had carrots and grape tomatoes with it.

I rested a bit, did some dishes and then did an indoor workout with EA Sports Active 2 on the Wii. There was no way I was heading back out to the YMCA on a night like tonight.

Time to read some blogs, the Larsson book (it’s getting really good now) and get to bed early tonight.

Balanced

Last night, I did end up doing Wii Fit before heading to bed. I hadn’t done it in ages and two good things came from not doing it for a while–the program told me I lost weight and that I was amazingly balanced! I think my time at the gym has definitely paid off. I am more excited about the being balanced news than anything else. Last year, I dealt with spraining my right ankle and finding out my left ankle had a small break in it. I felt off balance all year, even with physical therapy. From going to the YMCA regularly and strength training more, I have gained strength in my legs and core and it has helped tremendously.

Doing some yoga, balance exercises and a little boxing on the Wii seemed to have help my stomach, because I felt better this morning.

My first meal of the day was Kashi Autumn Wheat and coffee.

coffee and autumn wheat kashi cereal

Snack was a small piece of Danish and coffee.

Lunch was spinach salad with baby carrots, tofu, red sweet pepper, a tiny bit of Greek style feta dressing and Irish cheddar to add a nice kick to the meal. I also had an applesauce and Stonyfield Oikos honey yogurt. Dessert was Newman’s Own chocolate chip cookies.

The cookies are so addictive! I had to put them down and tell myself to stop at one point!

I didn’t know what to make for dinner, so I settled on having a fried egg sandwich with provolone cheese on an english muffin. It hit the spot!

After work, I opened up a pomegranate and got the arils out, so I topped a Strawberry Pomegranate Stonyfield yogurt with arils.

I went to my Thursday night yoga class and we had a substitute teacher. We started class with Tai Chi, transitioned to more flow yoga and then did some traditional poses and abs. I was proud of myself–my core is the weakest part of my body and I stuck with staying strong on all of the tough ab exercises and felt the burn. It was a good class, but I really missed our regular teacher.

After class, I snacked on an Arnold’s Thin with NuttZo Peanut Free and some all natural pb chips.

Glad tomorrow is Friday, even if my weekend is cut short because I have to work a half day on Sunday! Hope you had a good Thursday.

Paying for eating frozen pizza

So, I paid for what I ate today and yesterday. Frozen pizza is not the best food for a healthy living blogger to eat! Especially one with digestive troubles. I believe I paid for eating frozen pizza for dinner last night and lunch today with cramps in my tummy after lunch and for most of the afternoon at work. Not fun! Proof that I need to be eating whole foods and this blog does help me realize what my trigger foods are.

Meals for 1/4/11 (catching up because I was behind on posts)

Tuesday Breakfast was Kashi Autumn Wheat and coffee.

Lunch was a Morningstar Farms Black Bean Burger on an Arnold’s Thin with provolone cheese and a bit of mayo. I also had baby carrots, applesauce, a clementine and a chocolate chip cookie.

Dinner was the naughty, greasy frozen pizza.

My father-in-law took away this picture. Doesn’t everyone agree, it’s so 70’s!? I was so happy to see this go so we can start fresh with some pretty pictures above our couch.

Wednesday’s meals:

Breakfast–the last of the plain non-fat Stonyfield Oikos. :(

Oikos greek yogurt, almonds, chia seeds, honey and coffee

Snack–a banana and coffee.

Lunch was the frozen pizza again, string cheese and a blueberry Chobani.

I didn’t end up going to see Country Strong because of how my stomach was feeling. We also got a dusting of slippery snow, so maybe it was meant to be that I didn’t travel far in the mess we had.

Dinner was the Santa Fe good stuff from gardein. I think I liked the Tuscan meal better.

You know what I miss most when I feel sick? Going to the gym. I hate having a cold or this tummy trouble. I thought about going, but then I have EA Active to do here too. I may do that yet, even though it is getting late. Maybe yoga on Wii fit?

Wow, this week has flown by! I can’t believe tomorrow is Thursday already!

Vacation on my mind

I had a typical Sunday around here. Read the paper, watched my show (CBS Sunday morning) and then went to Body Pump at the Y. The new release was pretty good. I liked some of the songs, but didn’t love all of them. It was so packed that I had to go in a spot without a mirror, which made it tough to keep my form in check.

Before pump, I had Kashi Autumn Wheat and coffee for breakfast.

And about 1/4 of the PB & J Larabar.

When I got home from the gym, I had string cheese with a cup of greek yogurt, chia seeds, honey and almonds.

Lunch was a salad topped with tofu and a side of Food Should Taste Good sweet potato tortilla chips.

Then it was time to plan our February vacation to Florida! In 2010, we just stayed around Wisconsin and went to Chicago for our wedding anniversary. I am definitely looking forward to getting out of the cold Wisconsin weather and having a break from work in February. We found a good flight deal on Southwest (no baggage fees and nonstop, phew). We just have to find a hotel or condo to stay at in the Orlando area. We are on the fence about which type of place to stay at. There are pros and cons to both.

Now that we’ve booked our flight, it all feels so real and I cannot wait. I definitely have a week of vacation on my mind! :)

Dinner was penne pasta with mushrooms, artichokes, olives, & garlic.

I wish I had one more day off of work (like my lucky husband), but it’s back to the 40 hour work week tomorrow. :(

Dinner with the girls

I was out late last night, so I am catching up on Wednesday’s post.

I felt a lot better on Wednesday. I am so happy that illness passed. I had so much more energy at work, luckily, since we were cleaning again and I pretty much got my workout in by walking a lot and lifting boxes.

Breakfast was Kashi Autumn Wheat and coffee.

Morning snack was coffee, raw almonds and Newman’s Own Organics Berry Blend.

Lunch was the rest of my Subway sandwich, a berry applesauce, Stonyfield honey oikos yogurt (really not loving this flavor now) and two clementines. I am still eating more calories to make up for Monday.

After work, I had dinner at the Wicked Hop restaurant in Milwaukee’s Third Ward with my friends. We finally celebrated Christmas together by eating out.

Our friend Jenny arrived last and had wonderful news! She got engaged on Christmas eve! She has been dating her now fiance Tim for about 10 years plus. We were all so happy for her that we squealed with excitement, were ooing and aawing over her ring and loved hearing about how the proposal happened.

My dinner was a Tequila Chicken Wrap with fruit on the side. I also enjoyed a Strongbow. I am definitely a cider or wine girl vs. beer.

We had to celebrate Jenny’s engagement with some dessert! It was delicious Red Velvet Cake that the Wicked Hop gets from the C. Adams bakery at the Milwaukee Public Market.

What a fun evening spent with the girls! Congrats to Jenny and Tim on their big news!

Relaxing evening

Happy Friday evening! My body just shut down when I got home, so I didn’t go to the gym. I needed a rest day anyway before I hit the gym this weekend. Craig and I took a walk in the neighborhood. Here are some images of Halloween decorations and pretty leaves:

Neighborhood "Friday Night Scare" house

This house is decorated to the max every Halloween. They have a sign on the corner that says Friday Night Scare at  7 p.m. We’ve never visited, but should! We even got a formal invite as I took this photo.

Beautiful burning bush

After the walk, we made one of the Digiorno Pizza & Breadsticks boxes we picked up this week and got a good deal on ($3 per box). It was ok. My review would be that the breadsticks could use some garlic flavoring and the marina sauce dip that is included was just blah (Craig agreed). I was sooo full after a few breadsticks and two pieces of pizza.

Then…I fell asleep on the couch and a certain cute kitty joined me, further increasing my need to be glued to the couch and cuddle. Sometimes you just need a good Friday night nap instead of a Friday night drink.

Recap of earlier today…the day started out slow at work and then got really busy after I got out of a meeting, which was great because then my Friday flew by. I met with someone from the local genealogical society linked to our library and it was so inspirational. Now I want to do more research on my ancestors and my husband’s. I discovered some great free resources from the library to do that with.

Breakfast today was Kashi Autumn Wheat. You know, it doesn’t taste much different from Island Vanilla? I expected more flavors of “autumness” if that is even a word!

Snack during my 15 minute morning break was two dried figs (wasn’t feeling them today) and another coffee. Oh and a side of a second good book by Larsson.

Lunch was a whole wheat tortilla from TJ’s filled with pinto beans and Colby and jack shredded cheese. Of course, I topped it with lots of Frank’s Red Hot sauce. I also had a Gala apple and a Strawberry Chobani yogurt.

Excited to get my haircut and enjoy a (free) relaxing spa treatment tomorrow! Enjoy your weekend.
