In light of the fact that I don’t have a lot of time to blog, I decided to jump on the wordless Wednesday bandwagon and share some of my day through pictures. I kind of enjoyed doing this because I took pictures of different things than I normally would during the course of a day.

All checked up
Between yesterday and today, I went to two different doctors for checkups. I am glad I got the appointments over with and I’m all checked up for now. I am going to see a new Gastroenterologist in September and I am looking forward to that appointment, because I heard the new doc I am seeing spends a lot of time with his patients. After being sick a lot with colitis, despite all of the medicine I am on, I want someone to look into my condition a bit further than my current doc has. I even went so far as to request my medical records from my old doctor so I can do my research and read through my history so I can be a better informed patient.
Right now, I am taking a break from packing. I am headed to my parents’ house tonight to stay overnight. Tomorrow, my mom and I are going to Madison for the Farmer’s Market, then to New Glarus, and hopefully to the outlets at the end of the day. I am looking forward to a little day trip and to spending time with my mom!
I tried a new cereal for breakfast. I went to Whole Foods after my doc appt. last night and picked up lots of goodies! I had a coupon for the Yogi brand of granola or cereal, so I tried this one.
I loved the flavor–natural, yet delicious tasting! The cherry flavor was subtle, but blended together beautifully with the almond.
At work, I treated myself to an iced coffee and I snacked on a banana.
Lunch was the rest of the quinoa, chickpeas, and Mmmm sauce. I also had a Strawberry Banana Chobani.
I left work early for the doc. The doctor and I had a funny conversation about my last name. Turns out that she had been saying my name for the last two days. I can’t say why for privacy reasons, but the stories she told me had me cracking up. She always eases my nervousness and makes me laugh. We also had a nice discussion about greek yogurt. She lit up when I said I eat a lot of that and I don’t think I have to worry about my calcium intake because of the amount of dairy I eat.
When my doc appt. was over, I headed to Target. I didn’t grab a basket on purpose. I found too many items, per usual, and I was almost dropping things on my way to the cash register. That was better than throwing things into a cart and spending over $50 like I normally do there. I finally purchased some stainless steel canisters for my flour, sugar, etc. I have been going back and forth for months about the OXO ones and this type. I like how these look and maybe someday when we have a bigger kitchen, they can sit on the counter too.
Dinner was a whole wheat bun with temeph, red onions, provolone cheese, goddess dressing, and some mayo.
I also had some tomatoes on the side from our garden.
Here’s the big bowl of goodies we picked tonight.
Time to get off of here, take a walk with Craig, and then hit the road for my parents’ house!
Have a great start to your weekend!
Mmmm cream puffs
What a great Wednesday! Ever since I went to yoga last night with my friend Laurie, I have been in such a good mood. I feel like my life is more balanced this week than last week and maybe that is contributing to my good mood too.
I decided to switch things up for breakfast and had a poached egg with provolone cheese and Frank’s Red Hot on whole wheat bread.
Lunch was a small taco, pineapple Chobani yogurt, and a pink lady apple.
After work, I met my friend Angie at the gym for some weights, cardio on the Cybex Arc Trainer, and abs. It was fun to catch up with her and have a buddy to workout with.
On my way back from the gym, all I could think about was making quinoa with Mmmm sauce. I’ve been wanting to make Mmmm sauce for a while now and when I tried to load the recipe online over the weekend, it wasn’t working! So, I finally made it tonight and now I know how it got it’s name!
I added chickpeas and tomatoes to the quinoa. The sauce reminded me of the flavors I love in Indian food!
I did sit there and say “mmmmm” while eating this dinner. I made Craig try some too and he thought it was pretty good.
My mom won six Wisconsin State Fair cream puffs and picked them up today, so we got three of them to enjoy.
I had one and indulged a bit.
I just heard on the news that they will have the world’s largest cream puff at the Wisconsin State Fair this year! Crazy.
I guess I had a sweet tooth tonight (even though I didn’t have any major cravings for sweets), because I also had a few bites of this addictive ice cream.
Time to read some blogs, a book on my kindle, and then get some zzzz’s.
Garden time!
Craig and I took full advantage of our day off and slept in until 8:20 today. The cats were pissed off when I went to feed them. It was an hour and 20 minutes past their feeding time, so I don’t blame them.
Since we have some overripe bananas, I decided to use one for stovetop oats.
After lounging around for a bit, we went to Stein Garden and Gifts to get some vegetable plants for our container garden.
I couldn’t resist taking pictures of pretty flowers and plants.
A True Wisconsin Native plant!
We picked out six plants to add to the tomato plants we already had at home.
This story was funnier to experience in person, but I helped an old Italian couple and then they thought I worked at Stein’s. They were asking an actual Stein’s worker where the basil plants were and she told them in the first greenhouse. Well, we had just come from there and those basil plants were horrible. We had picked up ours from the freshest batch of plants that were recently delivered, because we got that tip from a helpful Stein’s worker. I stopped the man and told him there were better basil plants in another area and then after his wife was finally convinced I was being helpful, she followed us to the area. When I showed him the basil, they spoke Italian to each other and then he asked me in Italian where the parsley was. I replied that I didn’t work there and it was probably in that first greenhouse where the herbs were though. He kept speaking Italian to me and he really had no clue that I understood him, but it was fun to experience listening to him and testing my knowledge of the language. The funny thing was that Craig watched the end of The Godfather II this morning and I was speaking Italian all morning because once I hear it, I start remembering certain words and phrases.
Of course, being that it’s Memorial Day weekend and everyone is planting their gardens and flowers this weekend, it was packed. We stood in a long line, but it moved quickly.
Then it was time to mix up soil from last year, put it in the pots and plant everything!
We planted two green pepper plants (I will wait for some to turn to red), cilantro, basil, two roma tomatoes, two yellow small tomatoes, one cherry tomato, & a yellow hot pepper.
This is our second year container gardening. We had good luck with it last year, so I hope it warms up soon around here and these plants do well! I’ll keep you posted and definitely will note when I use garden veggies in my recipes.
I ate the rest of my Qdoba burrito and hoped it wouldn’t upset my stomach. Of course, I probably shouldn’t have added Frank’s Red Hot to upset my stomach, but it really never seems to do that despite what others think.
I enjoyed lunch with iced coffee.
And I thought I would show you the cute t-shirt I got for $6 at Wal-Mart last weekend. It’s the Danskin Active Now brand. A perfect shirt for yoga because it’s longer and nice and loose.
It’s still gorgeous out, so I am going to lay on the couch, enjoy the cool breeze and read my book.
Tonight, I am going to go to Zumba at 6:30 and maybe I’ll do some weight lifting before that too. Hope you have a great start to your holiday weekend!
Busy, but productive Saturday
As my title says, it was a very busy day by choice, but felt so nice and productive. At about 6:20, when we were sitting down and having dinner together, I said to Craig, “wow, this day went by so slowly, but in a good way because I got so much done.” Love those kind of days!
I woke up, meditated and then had a craving for oatmeal, so that’s what I made.
I wanted to go to yoga, but by the time I ate, it was getting late and I was SO full from the oatmeal. I decided to stay home instead and clean. I was in one of my cleaning moods, so I threw laundry in, dusted, washed dishes, cleaned counters and the kitchen table, vacuumed, swept and got the kitchen ready for mopping. I managed to read my book in between cleaning too.
I wasn’t too hungry for a “real” lunch, so I had a pomegranate chobani and a triple chocolate chunk vita top.
The vita top was delicious, as expected! Very chocolaty!
Then I was off to Craig’s grandma’s 90th birthday party. I went late, after the meal was over, because I really didn’t want to pay $15 to have the meal choice they offered and there was no vegetarian option. They had fried chicken, ham, mashed potatoes, green beans, etc. I wouldn’t have enjoyed the meat and it probably would have upset my stomach. I just had a few bites of birthday cake.
Here is my sister-in-law, Grandma, and Craig.
After the party, I headed to Pick N’ Save to get some groceries on double double coupon day. I could double 10 coupons, which was great because we needed oatmeal, cereal, clementines, olive oil, etc. and I was able to save a lot of money today.
Then it was time to mop the floors! I really hate this chore more than any other in the house. It takes so much time to clear everything out and we just have a small kitchen and bathroom!
Seeing shiny, clean floors made me happy though.
I felt like the energizer bunny today. The next thing I did was lace up my running shoes and get outside for a 15 minute run.
It felt so good to run outside opposed to the treadmill. I just wish I had a garmin to see what my pace was and the distance I completed. I know they aren’t that much money, but I am not sure it is worth the investment for me. Especially because I couldn’t use it at the gym in the winter.
Clearly this is a (shiny) face of a very happy blogger who can get outside and run, at last!
Because I didn’t go to the gym, I decided to lift my 8 lb. weights too.
Dinner was delicious. Every time I make a quinoa dish like this, I just go “mmmmm” throughout dinner. I made mine with kalamata olives, roasted red peppers, tomatoes, tomato basil feta cheese, dried basil and mural of flavor from Penzey’s spices, olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
When I saw this flavor at the store today, I knew I had to try it in the quinoa dish.
And after dinner, Craig and I went on a long walk around the neighborhood. It was nice to see flowers coming up and some even had bloomed already! They’re really going to go into action tomorrow when it’s in the 70′s.
Right before I started blogging this post, I ate a skinny cow cookies n’ cream ice cream sandwich.
Time to finish reading Animal, Vegetable, Miracle. I am almost done!
Hope your Saturday was fantastic!
