Mopping sucks

I had a very relaxing weekend, like I needed after a week of being sick with colitis problems. Here is a collage of my food over the last two days and I of course ate a lot of food that is unpictured like chobani, string cheese, & pita chips.

I also made Paige’s mug cookie, but I made it in a bowl.

It didn’t turn out as well as I had hoped it would, but it tasted great. I just couldn’t eat it all because it was so sweet!

This morning, I had a big mug of coffee while watching CBS Sunday Morning. The story in the background was on shape up type shoes like Sketchers Shape Ups, MBT, Puma, and Reebook. The final conclusion is that those types of shoes don’t really engage muscles like the shoe companies claim they do. (Sorry Angie)!

I was pretty lazy today overall because I needed to relax and still recuperate from feeling sick all week.

But, I was productive with laundry and the worst task of all: mopping. You see, we’re going away this weekend and I don’t want to leave a sloppy house for my in-laws while they come and check on the cats. I guess the worst part of mopping is clearing the items from the kitchen and bathroom before getting to the task itself.

It’s really nice to have a clean kitchen though!

I did make it to the gym tonight. I followed Jillian’s advice from her podcast and didn’t stretch before my workout. Instead, I warmed up on the BOSU before lifting a full circuit of weights. I also walked and ran the track for 10 minutes. I didn’t need to do a lot of cardio because Craig and I walked almost two miles in the humidity this morning.

And now, I am finishing watching the movie Conviction. It’s pretty good–not one of those movies I was super excited to see, but an intriguing story overall.

Time to sign off and get ready for bed! Hooray for a four day week for me. :)

Rest day recap

Aaah, this rest day was exactly what we needed.

I had a yummy bowl of Apple Cinammon Oatmeal with peanut butter for breakfast. I also had a peach yoplait and coffee on the side.

After sitting at breakfast a lot longer than we normally have during this vacation, I went back to the Lululemon Athletica outlet. Since last Friday, I had thought about purchasing the Speed Up tank. Sometimes walking away and thinking about purchases is a good thing. I had tried on my normal size and it seemed a little tight in areas. I asked the girl in the fitting room if their sizes ran a bit small and she said they normally are the same size you always wear. She said the top I chose did feature a tighter fitting material, so I went with the next size up.

I thought this tank would be perfect for yoga, especially because of the longer length. But when I mentioned the yoga factor at the checkout, the cashier was really nice and reminded me that the zipper may get in the way. I’ll just try it out and be careful when I do poses on my back.

I tried on pants and sports bras at Lululemon too and just wasn’t feeling the way either items fit. The girl at the fitting room was really helpful. Did you know that if you buy Lululemon pants at the outlet (which are about 40% off retail), you can get them hemmed for free at your local Lululemon? All of the pants I tried on today were super long, but I still wasn’t loving how they fit in other areas. I actually think I prefer Gap Body’s pants for yoga and cardio.

When I got back from the outlets, I read a bit of The Omnivore’s Dilemma and then Craig and I got ready to head out of the hotel.

We went to Giordano’s deep dish pizza for lunch. Yum! Seeing that we only have had the opportunity to eat deep dish when we have gone to Chicago, we took advantage of the fact that Florida also has deep dish pizza.

Two pieces of this sausage and cheese pizza was so filling for the both of us! Leftovers for tomorrow’s dinner!

After filling up on yummy pizza, Craig wanted to drive by the hotel he stayed at with his family when he was a kid and we knew it was just down the road. It was still there, but too bad it’s probably going to be torn down soon because it’s no longer a working hotel and there are no tresspassing signs all over the property.

When we got back, we sat by the pool and went in the hot tub. We think the hot tub has been broken this whole time, because it really wasn’t that hot. It looks like someone was working on it tonight, so hopefully we’ll get a chance at a real hotub tomorrow night.

My dinner ended up being a peanut butter cookie Larabar and a small apple.

Oh and my husband scored me a white chocolate chip cookie from the front desk. I savored it’s goodness while watching Watson on Jeopardy. I am a total Jeopardy geek, so I was excited to see Watson in action.

Tomorrow, we are off to Kennedy Space Center! We chose the best tour to get close to the launch pad. Too bad we are missing the actual launch by a mere 6 days. Boo!

Time to get organized for our little road trip.

Have any of the readers out there been to Kennedy Space Center? Any last minute tips for us? We have read that it’s hard to cram everything in during a day trip, but we’re going to try to do it.

Conquering tofu

I conquered my fear of making tofu! I like tofu and have had it several times in restaurants. I just had a fear of pressing the water out of it properly and cooking it. With the help of Emily from The Daily Garnish, I was able to easily follow her directions and make my own yummy tofu for lunch. She has a How To: A Tofu Tutorial posted on her blog, but I was having trouble posting the exact link, so you can search her site if you are interested in her detailed instructions.

I spiced it up with Penzey’s black pepper, Mural of Flavor and Old World seasonings.

Breakfast today was greek yogurt with chia seeds, honey and almonds.

Angie and I had fun at the gym this morning. We did 23 minutes on the elliptical & a full circuit of weights.

When I got home from the gym, I was hungry! I snacked on a few (well maybe it was more than a few) of these addictive “Food Should Taste Good” Sweet Potato tortilla chips. Through a Facebook promotion, I was able to get a coupon for a free bag via snail mail.

I ran a bunch of errands in the afternoon, but accomplished a lot, so that felt good. One of my biggest accomplishments was picking up three framed pictures from Target to put above our couch. Craig and I have been searching for something to replace a very 1970′s brown picture with (I detest this picture, as it’s just depressing in appearance and so 70′s). I saw these pictures at Target yesterday and took photos of them to show Craig. At last, we both agreed on a style of a picture we liked!

I brought them home and my sister-in-law was over at our house. She took one look at them and said they were very much our style. They kind of have an Indian style to them and we love all things India.

I also picked up a lot around the house, organized, etc. because that is one of my goals for the new year. I am generally a very clean person, but organization is sometimes a problem for me.

Time to work on writing my goals out a little more. I am taking my time, as I figure they didn’t need to be posted today and could wait until later this weekend.

Tomorrow, I am going to do my usual Sunday paper and CBS Sunday Morning thing, then go to Body Pump with Angie for the new release! Can’t wait to see what the new music is!

Quick post

I had to work today and my weekend will be cut short, since I don’t have off on Monday. Therefore, this post will also be short because I am limited on my time! After a nap, I buzzed around the house doing dishes, laundry and picking up in general. Unfortunately, I have been a slacker in the fitness department this week. I really miss the gym, but when my body hurts from running around all day at work, I can’t justify going to the gym for a workout. Sometimes you just have to listen to your body and rest.

Breakfast today was the rest of the stovetop oats I made for breakfast yesterday–I put a half of a banana in it, NuttZo and chocolate chips. Next time, I will skip the banana because the chocolate and nut flavor would have been perfect.

Like I said before, I had the opportunity to work with some local genealogists and had help researching my family tree. I have a lot of information on my dad’s side, but had names and dates for my mom’s and didn’t know a lot about it. I got a few more pieces of information filled in today, so that was cool. Last night, I stayed up late and finally figured out that a misspelling in a town name on my dad’s side had stopped me from finding the area in Germany they were from. Finally, I read through some history and found the district of Neubrandenburg, Germany and the correct spelling and city where my ancestors originated from. I love history and majored in it in college, so it makes sense that I love discovering all of this information about my family.

We are supposed to get hammered by a big snow storm tonight and I hope that doesn’t change my plans for brunch with the girls and Whole Foods after tomorrow.

That’s all folks–it’s getting late here and I’ll write a longer post tomorrow.

Eating carrots instead of chocolate…

On my lunch break today, I was eating baby carrots like they were chocolate. The crunching noise and feeling somehow helped me relieve my stress. The vet called me back this morning with more bad news. In the last few days, she wasn’t able to find anything medically that relates to Karma’s symptoms. Basically, there is no diagnosis and treatment for his condition. We will put him on steroids in two days, but she doesn’t have much hope that that treatment will do much for him. Of course, I got this news at work and I instantly wanted to run and hide. I called Craig with the bad news and that was equally as difficult as getting it from the doctor on the phone.

Breakfast was Apple Cinnamon cheerios and coffee with Silk Nog added. I am trying to use the stuff up before it expires.

Stonyfield Oikos Organic Greek Yogurt review

After work today, I went to a smaller, local grocery store because it is often better than the big box store I go to in terms of carrying unique products and flavors. My goal was to use up some of my free yogurt coupons. I found everything I wanted and tried one of the yogurts this afternoon. Until today, I had never tried the Oikos line from Stonyfield.

I picked out the Stonyfield Oikos Organic Greek Strawberry yogurt. It was so creamy and delicious! I think it may have been one of the creamiest yogurts I have ever had. It didn’t taste as thick as other Greek yogurts. I definitely liked the creaminess!

Bad day turned good

For various reasons, I didn’t have the best day. :( I won’t go into details because after about 4:30 p.m., my bad day turned good.

I was finished eating dinner, sitting with Craig at the table and went on my iPod touch to see who won fANNEtasticfood‘s Stonyfield yogurt giveaway and I saw my name announced as the winner! I thought I was imagining things. I couldn’t believe it and yelled with joy. I cannot wait to get my coupons and try all of those yogurts! Yogurt has been my favorite food since I was about 6. As a kid, I used to beg my parents for it and say “I want yogurt”–I know, I am a weird person. I eat it every day and find it helps my tummy troubles a lot. Thanks Anne and Stonyfield for the awesome giveaway. :) You truly made my day.

Aaah, strong coffee

I love strong (expensive) coffee with a full body and great taste. My boss didn’t like this coffee, it was too “earthy” for him, so he gave it to me to try out. I loved it! I always pay a little more for coffee and find it is worth it. This coffee is local to Milwaukee, so I also like buying local products when I can. I don’t buy Alterra too often, but maybe I will more now that I was so impressed with my yummy cup this morning.
