Starving Artists Show and Contagion

This afternoon, I went to the Starving Artists Show at Mount Mary College with my friend Danielle.

We had only been once before and I honestly can say that like that other time, about 90% of the booths are ones I am not that interested in.

I like the jewelry, glass blown items, some of the pottery, and photography, but the other booths don’t really interest me. That is only my opinion though and I think it is cool to see artists from all over the area that work really hard at making what they love. We didn’t spend a lot of time there and didn’t purchase anything, but it was fun to walk around and visit with each other by seeing the various booths.

I came pretty close to buying a pretty bowl, but decided that it wasn’t really deep enough for cereal or yogurt and then it was pointless to pay $7 for a pretty bowl when I wouldn’t be able to use it that much.

After an Aldi run, I ran home to relax a bit, meditate, and read a little of Farm City and then we were off to the movie Contagion.

I really enjoyed the plot of the movie and I liked all of the actors and actresses in it. I also like movies about health, science, and viruses, so maybe it was just my opinion. It has received good reviews so far though.

Jude Law’s character is a blogger and one of the scientists says to him, “A blog isn’t writing. It’s graffiti with punctuation.” There were a lot of blog references in there and Craig would laugh every time a reference to blogging came up.

Once the movie was over, I really felt like pulling out my Burt’s Bees hand sanitizer and using it! So, I posed with it by the movie poster.

I’m actually going to try to cut back on the number of blog posts I write every week or make them shorter. Maybe it was the movie and the obsessive nature Jude Law’s character had towards his blog, but I feel like I am missing out on other aspects of life because I am constantly on the computer writing the blog or looking at other people’s blogs. Does anyone else go through these periods where they feel the same way? I have piles of magazines and many books to get through. I have a husband and cats who I want to spend quality time with every day. So, I’ll blog when I feel like it and when I feel like doing other things, I’ll do those instead and won’t post.

  1. My boyfriend and I saw Contagion yesterday as well and he would laugh at every blog reference in the film. I thought it was a great film and I’ve been stopping myself every time I go to touch my face!

I can definitely relate to need to unplug some times. When I first started blogging someone told me, “blog because you love it, not because you have to” and that has stuck with me. Life can be really crazy sometimes, and not blogging is A OK. You’ll actually enjoy blogging more if you take some time off in my opinion. Read your magazines and your books, spend time with your loved ones… trust me, after a day you’ll be dying to write about you life.

  2. Great post. I love the artist shows. I always go to one or two locally per year. I have not seen this movie yet but am planning to. I can relate to the need to blog less and live more. I never feel too bad when I go offline for a spell. I also never feel bad if there’s meals or get togethers I do not take pics of. Sometimes it’s nice to eat without the camera involved or the food being cold. My motto is life first, blog second.

  3. Agreed! Spend time doing things that you love, and if at that moment it’s not blogging- then put it on the back burner. Good luck!

  4. Lately, with the new jobs and long commute, I feel like I’ve been spending too much time blogging. I’d like to stick with my daily updates – at the very least to keep me on track with half marathon training – but sometimes I am just not all that inspired…maybe I should take that as a hint…?

  5. Now I really want to see this! I don’t think I’ll wanna watch it with my husband though – going by what you said about Jude’s character 😉

  6. Good point about the blogging. I have been trying to keep mine short. Luckily I can do a fair amount of blog reading at work. I don’t generally take time to do that at home.
