Addicted to Chobani and Quinoa

I am sure most bloggers do what I do and look at how people searched to ultimately land that searcher on their blog. Someone searched “chobani addiction” today and landed on my site! This search led me to believe that in fact, that searcher may be correct, I have a Chobani addiction. I eat it every day and miss it when I don’t eat it. But, I have been like this about yogurt since I was about five years old. Yogurt really does seem like the one food that helps my Ulcerative Colitis too.

So, I titled my post “addicted to Chobani and Quinoa” because I feel like I have been eating a lot of both lately and never seem to tire of either.

I had a good Monday! It helped to see the sunshine out after a gloomy weekend. I was busier at work than I have been recently, which I like because then the day goes by more quickly.

Had an excellent breakfast of Chobani plain yogurt with fresh blueberries, chia seeds, & raspberry Bonne Maman preserves (miss my Wild Blueberry, but these will do).

At work, I snacked on some banana bread before going into a meeting and I am glad I did because the meeting went on longer than I wanted it to.

Lunch was blue corn chips, a ham and cheese sandwich and an apple, carried to work in my new apple cozy thingie. 🙂

I also had some Trader Joe’s dark chocolate for dessert and some almonds in the afternoon.

I went to the gym after meditating and did a full circuit of weights plus biked 11.17 miles over 31 minutes. I wanted to do more and had the energy, but it was getting late and I had to eat dinner. I seriously wish I could spend two hours plus at the gym sometimes, but just need to manage my time and probably could only do that on the weekends.

When I was bored and lived in alone in California, I did go to the gym for two plus hours because I enjoyed my time at the UC Berkeley gym so much and I really needed the exercise high from the low I felt living there every day.

I cooked up quinoa with various veggies and chickpeas for my dinner. Craig also had his version with chickpeas, red peppers and tomatoes. He’s not too keen on my feta cheese, artichokes and kalamata olives.

I didn’t clean a lot over the weekend, so I accomplished something tonight by doing dishes and vacuuming. I hate having a dirty house. I can deal with piles and some things not being organized, but I hate seeing dirt in the form of dishes lying around and dirty surface areas.

That’s all I have for today. Hope you had a good Monday!

Monday blues

How was your Monday? Mine was ok. I was really tired today, but had to power through and get a lot of work done and pay attention in meetings.

Luckily, I am off tomorrow and get to do enjoyable things before the mad rush at work hits. I call this month March madness every year now, but it’s not because I follow basketball or care at all about basketball, but because my work literally gets insanely busy in March.

Breakfast was boring cheerios and a big cup of French roasted Starbucks coffee.

I like dark roasts best and in the March 2011 Natural Health magazine, there was an article talking about how “dark-roasted coffee contains N-methylpyridium (NMP), a chemical generated during roasting that reduces the production of irritating acid in the stomach.” The article goes on to say that “French and espresso roasts contain up to twice as much of this stomach-friendly substance as lighter roasts.” No wonder I like the darker roasts! Since I have such stomach trouble already, I need all the help I can get!

No snack at work due to a busy meeting schedule. Boo, my stomach was hungry too!

Lunch was a ham and pepper jack cheese sandwich, carrot sticks, an Activia peach cobbler dessert yogurt and one chocolate chip cookie (not pictured).

I had a cup of hot cocoa at work for a little afternoon break while I worked on some editing.

Dinner was mac and cheese. I seriously cannot eat it without Frank’s Red Hot sauce. I think I have a problem.

I was so full after dinner so I laid down on the couch and fell asleep. That meant that I skipped the gym. This new schedule with meditation is tough. Basically, I get home from work & meditate at the time I used to go to the gym. Before meditating as of last week, I did well with getting home, changing and heading right to the gym. I guess I just have to remember that I am supposed to do something active after meditation, so I’ll have to get to the gym right away. I’ll definitely have to eat something as a snack before the gym because I always seem to get hungry right around the time I am at there. Like anything new, it just takes some time to figure out the new schedule.

I had a cup of the Dieter’s Tea Cleanse & Trim that I received for free from Swanson Health Products.

It’s getting late, so I’ll wait to do my review on this product until tomorrow or later this week.

For now, I’ll just say that it tasted great!

Time to go read my book and try not to fall asleep on the couch again!

Be back tomorrow with my recap of my day off. I plan to hit the gym in the morning, maybe even for a class, hang around the house a bit, have lunch here and then go to the mall in the late afternoon. I have to time my shopping right because I have to drive out to this location further away from my house for the guided meditation class we’re going to. Should be interesting to compare the type I have been doing to the guided type.

Glad today is over

I am just glad the day is over. We still have one more aspect of the funeral tomorrow, the burial, but funerals are really hard to go to. I know it is this way for everyone in life and I need to accept that I will have more to go to in the coming years, some of which will be very difficult for me. It was nice to see old pictures of Craig’s grandma and hear stories about her I hadn’t heard before.

I started out the morning with Honey Nut Cheerios, fresh blueberries, and coffee.

Before washing dishes, I snacked on some toast with Earth Balance and Danish Strawberry Rhubarb jam. I also had another cup of coffee.

Lunch was a Black Cherry Chobani yogurt and a ham and cheese sandwich. I liked the Black Cherry flavor but think I prefer Strawberry Banana more because of my own personal preference for that flavor.

Haribo gummies followed.

Dinner was pure comfort food–frozen pizza and skim milk.

I also had a few Mint Oreos for dessert.

Not the best food day I guess, but that’s what you get for a stressful day with a funeral (and checking my work e-mail late tonight and responding to a bunch of messages).

I think I need to introduce meditation into my life to deal with the work aspect of stress I seem to have such trouble with. I actually am going to attend a free class on meditation and have Craig come along as support. With an already busy schedule, I am not sure how to fit meditation into my life, but I will try to. Anyone have a good balance down with meditation, gym, working full-time and have any advice to offer?

So, I didn’t discuss it on here yet, but you may have noticed I didn’t mention exercise habits during our trip. Basically, I went to the hotel gym on the first day we were there and never returned accept for their filtered water. Honestly, after walking probably over 7 miles most days, I didn’t feel like coming back to the hotel and working out. Also, working out in the morning could have been an option, but again, I was exhausted and we had to be at many places quite early. How do you deal with working out on vacations which already involve lots of walking the entire day?

Returning to the gym yesterday felt very good. I need to keep up the those good habits and make time for exercise. This week, I will need to work out in the morning two days because I am working late. I know I need to fit them in and will hold myself accountable to my workout plans.

Ok and now I am rambling. Time to log off and get ready for bed.
