Injuries stink

There is no other way to put it, injuries are devastating. I managed to injure my ankle tonight while hopping off the treadmill. I had just run 2.85 miles in 33 minutes (walked part of that time as warm up/cool down). I felt fine the whole time on the treadmill. When I stepped off the back, my left ankle gave out on me. This is the ankle that has an old break in it from an injury that occurred about four years ago now. Amazing how it just keeps creeping back up. Anyway, I fell down to the ground and felt awful. The pain surged up my leg and I instantly was depressed about what had just happened. A nice guy lifting weights asked me if I was ok and I thanked him for asking. I walked it off and felt a little better. I also stretched and took off my shoe to see how it felt. The pain was really bad so I just decided to leave and get home ASAP to ice it.

Luckily I had a paradice pack in the freezer and a good nurse to help me feel better just by petting his cute little face.

Breakfast: honey nut cheerios and coffee

Snack: Almond Latte and Blue Diamond raw almonds

Lunch: lemon chobani with strawberries (such a good combination); a bagel thin with pb & j, a string cheese and an unpictured nutella cookie.

Dinner: since my foot was killing me, I warmed up the rest of the beer battered tofu and chowed down. I also had Stonyfield plain yogurt with Kashi cocoa granola and chia seeds.

My goal is to read A Homemade Life or an e-book tonight and catch up on my google reader, so off I go.

A Lovely Day for a Wedding

Seems like lots of bloggers were as excited as I was to wake up and watch the royal wedding early this morning! The first thing I did when I got out of the shower was turn on the TV. Of course, it took 2 minutes for them to show the dress and I was flipping out saying to myself, “stop showing these choir boys and show Kate.” Gorgeous dress and beautiful bride!

I wish William and Kate a lifetime of happiness and love. I know this is sappy, but I teared up watching it. The emotion came from thinking about my own wedding day. The wedding was definitely the super bowl for women, wouldn’t you agree? 🙂

No fun British food today, just my normal eats. I had a cup of tea during a meeting, does that count?

Breakfast was honey nut cheerios and coffee.

I actually got out of the office for lunch today and ventured out into the beautiful sunny weather (at last). I had to go to the Metro Market downtown again because they mischarged me for something the other day and I didn’t realize it until I got home. Yes, I am one of those people who goes back to customer service. In my defense, it was a $4.99 Amy’s veggie lasagna meal that was supposed to be 50% off. I actually didn’t expect this, but I got $5 cash back because of their mistake. Sweet!

So, I spent more money there anyway and got a salad at the salad bar.

I loaded my container with spinach, romaine lettuce, dried cranberries, tofu, sesame crackers (yum, need to add these to salads more often), blue cheese, baby corn, grape tomatoes, cucumbers and artichokes. I topped it with balsamic dressing.

This tasted so good and different! Just what I wanted!

Later in the afternoon, I pulled out an Apple Pie Larabar.

Craig received a package tonight, opened it up, and said the following to trick me, “aahh, they sent the wrong thing.” He brought the package over to me, told me to take a look at it, and I opened up my mouth in shock because it was a beautiful little Amazon Kindle! He ordered the special offers $114 Kindle that features advertising and deals such as a $20 amazon gift card for $10, etc. I have been wanting a Kindle for a while, so I was super excited for this surprise. We are going to share the device and I am fine with that! Down the road, we’ll hopefully be able to check out books for free through the Overdrive site.

Do you have a Kindle or an e-reader? If so, do you find yourself reading more now that you have one?

Dinner was Chobani greek vanilla yogurt with Bonne Maman wild blueberry preserves and beer battered tofu. I didn’t take a picture because you’ve seen those meals before!

After playing with the Kindle for a while and downloading some free books, it was already getting late. I decided to do my 10k training run outside because it was somewhat nice out still. I ran around our neighborhood and completed only 15 minutes, when I was supposed to do 20-25, but I figured it was better than nothing!

All in all, a lovely day. What more can a girl ask for–a Royal wedding and a surprise Kindle ordered by my sweet Prince.

Have a wonderful Friday night! I just have a couple of plans this weekend. I am meeting my friend Danielle for shopping and lunch tomorrow. We wanted to have Indian food, but because of my tummy, I need to be safe with my food choices. On Sunday, I am going to my parents’ house to celebrate my mom’s b-day with her a day early.

Indian food bliss

Yesterday was the opposite of my previous Saturday. Last Saturday, I felt like the day went by slowly and was productive.

On Saturday morning, I woke up late and my legs were aching from walking 6.65 miles at work. I didn’t want to do anything all day. I got home at about 1 a.m. on Saturday morning and I did not have the best night at work.

I am just going to throw this out there even though I know co-workers could be reading this post (well, one of them knows how I feel about this subject, so she won’t be shocked). As a result of this constant cycle of unhappiness with my career, I keep coming back to the fact that I feel like my current job isn’t what I am passionate about. I really want to pursue something in the nutrition and fitness fields sooner rather than later. Now how to go about doing that, I am not sure. Maybe certification in nutrition? Personal training too? My husband would say that I should learn how to deal with my unhappiness at work first and then I could move on to a new career. He is partially right, but I am still not happy with the daily duties of my job, nor am I fulfilled by them. I feel like this is a common theme among the blogs I read. Many bloggers earned their degrees in fields they thought they were passionate about, started working and realized sitting behind a desk and doing administrative type tasks just wasn’t what they wanted to do the rest of their life. Can any readers out there relate to my situation and if you can, are you switching careers currently or thinking about it?

I started my Saturday with boring old Honey Nut cheerios and coffee.

I purposely ate this light breakfast because I knew we were going to an Indian restaurant for a buffet lunch.

We went to Royal India restaurant on the south side of Milwaukee for their lunch buffet. Now, I don’t like buffets at all, but I love them at Indian restaurants. I was so pleased at the selection they offered and I usually am at Royal India. I got grilled seasoned veggies, naan, a veggie samosa, something similar to paneer tikka masala (my fav) and for dessert, delicious mango ice cream. For once, I actually limited what I ate and didn’t feel overstuffed, because then I usually feel sick the rest of the day.

The rest of the afternoon, I lounged around, napped, did laundry, etc. I went to Kohl’s to use some Kohl’s cash and got new Nike shorts for a mere $4.00. Craig and I came home from the mall and watched Inception. We had seen it in the theater last summer, but wanted to watch it again.

Now, I am just watching CBS Sunday Morning, ate this for breakfast…

coffee, Great Grain Cranberry Almond crunch

And I have to get ready for a bridal shower in a little bit. It’s a shower for Craig’s cousin who is getting married over Memorial Day weekend.

I’ll be back later to recap my Sunday afternoon. I hope to get to the gym today because I didn’t yesterday and then I’ll be mourning the fact that the weekend is over and I have to go back to work tomorrow.

Hope you’re enjoying your weekend!

Back to “the usual”

It’s time for me to get back into my routine, which I find awfully boring to present to my readers compared to traveling. Truthfully though, I actually seem to enjoy reading people’s routines and seeing their daily meals rather than hearing about their travels. Maybe it’s because I love traveling and I get a bit jealous?

Back to showing you my meals and talking about my regular day, including the workouts I am incorporating into my routine after a vacation without them.

I started out my morning back to work with some Honey Nut cheerios and a bowl of blueberries. I desperately wanted to make stove top oats with a banana and pb, but with having to scrape my car off for 20 minutes and de-ice, that wasn’t happening.

honey nut cheerios, bleuberries, coffee

Snack at work was a cup of hot cocoa with marshmallows and a trail mix bar.

Lunch was my leftovers from yesterday’s meal at The Cheesecake Factory and an apple. I also had a moser roth toffee chocolate bar for dessert.

apple and penne with veggies

I realized that before I left on our trip, I really was packing huge lunches at times. I think I am going to try cutting back a bit and watching my calories.

Dinner was a Strawberry Banana Chobani with a few cheerios on top and some of my naughty cheesecake.

My meal reflects this, but I was pressed for time because I stayed at work later and then had to get to my yoga class.

I had a piece of toast with peanut butter and a glass of chocolate milk when I got back from yoga.

Yoga tonight was excellent. I really love this teacher’s class because he always changes up the poses every week. I am always learning something new. My body needed yoga badly after our vacation! It felt so good to stretch.

Well folks, I need to start limiting my computer time and read a bit tonight since it’s already quite late.

Glad today is over

I am just glad the day is over. We still have one more aspect of the funeral tomorrow, the burial, but funerals are really hard to go to. I know it is this way for everyone in life and I need to accept that I will have more to go to in the coming years, some of which will be very difficult for me. It was nice to see old pictures of Craig’s grandma and hear stories about her I hadn’t heard before.

I started out the morning with Honey Nut Cheerios, fresh blueberries, and coffee.

Before washing dishes, I snacked on some toast with Earth Balance and Danish Strawberry Rhubarb jam. I also had another cup of coffee.

Lunch was a Black Cherry Chobani yogurt and a ham and cheese sandwich. I liked the Black Cherry flavor but think I prefer Strawberry Banana more because of my own personal preference for that flavor.

Haribo gummies followed.

Dinner was pure comfort food–frozen pizza and skim milk.

I also had a few Mint Oreos for dessert.

Not the best food day I guess, but that’s what you get for a stressful day with a funeral (and checking my work e-mail late tonight and responding to a bunch of messages).

I think I need to introduce meditation into my life to deal with the work aspect of stress I seem to have such trouble with. I actually am going to attend a free class on meditation and have Craig come along as support. With an already busy schedule, I am not sure how to fit meditation into my life, but I will try to. Anyone have a good balance down with meditation, gym, working full-time and have any advice to offer?

So, I didn’t discuss it on here yet, but you may have noticed I didn’t mention exercise habits during our trip. Basically, I went to the hotel gym on the first day we were there and never returned accept for their filtered water. Honestly, after walking probably over 7 miles most days, I didn’t feel like coming back to the hotel and working out. Also, working out in the morning could have been an option, but again, I was exhausted and we had to be at many places quite early. How do you deal with working out on vacations which already involve lots of walking the entire day?

Returning to the gym yesterday felt very good. I need to keep up the those good habits and make time for exercise. This week, I will need to work out in the morning two days because I am working late. I know I need to fit them in and will hold myself accountable to my workout plans.

Ok and now I am rambling. Time to log off and get ready for bed.
