Yoga before running = success!

Happy Thursday everyone! Hope you all have fun plans for Easter weekend. I took off of work tomorrow because my husband has off and I just needed a mental health day.

My breakfast-I didn’t feel like making stovetop oats today, we didn’t have much in terms of cereal selection, so I improvised. I made an egg white, cut up some grape tomatoes, and had a peach chobani yogurt. I used almond milk in my coffee today and it tasted good, so that might be my new replacement for half and half.

Couldn’t resist taking a picture of this. I received it in a free sample I received in the mail from International Delight (well from Vocalpoint). My happy time was obviously 5 p.m. for the day because I would be home from work by then and today is my Friday!

come back later...I'll have a much better attitude

I was really craving a coffee at work, but I resisted and had a peppermint tea instead. My snack was a Cran Bran Vita top. I started eating and then decided to warm it up in the microwave. Smart move because this improved the flavor immensely! I am going to warm up or toast the vita tops from now on. Loved the Cran Bran flavor.

Lunch was a Morningstar black bean veggie burger on an Arnold’s Thin, string cheese and some applesauce. Dessert was a hershey’s chocolate bunny from a co-worker.

After work, I went to Target and was so excited to check out the expanded grocery section of the Target I pass on my way home from work. I know, I am a total Target and foodie dork. At least I know this and can admit it. The new sections of the store were laid out and lit so beautifully. They had a lot of (cheap) produce and their prices on Chobani weren’t bad either. I was only disappointed at the fact that they didn’t have the big Chobanis. Oh and I found Bonne Maman wild blueberry preserves at a good price too. Score!

While there, I used a free coupon for Bagel Thins that I received from the company and got a package of whole wheat flavor.

Loved the flavor of the bagel thin and the fact that it was only 110 calories.

Dinner was a bagel thin with ham, swiss cheese and a side of strawberries.

Then it was off to yoga for an hour! It was a good class, per usual. I felt strong and flexible today, but my back did ache during the class and the stretching helped a lot.

After class, I wanted to go on the bike and read a magazine. Both of the bikes I prefer were taken, so I improvised and threw the biking idea out the window. Instead, I did what I was supposed to do in my 10k training schedule and I ran for 25 minutes on the treadmill and walked for two minutes. I covered 2.18 miles and I felt so strong and great. Like the subject of this post says, maybe yoga before running equals success!? If that’s the case, I better do yoga the morning of my race to stretch everything out!

At the gym, someone was watching Sex and the City on TV and I instantly wanted to watch a couple of episodes. I knew what I was going to do when I got home! I couldn’t wait to pop in the second season.

And now I better go catch up with Miranda and Steve and watch their first encounter! Were you ever obsessed with Sex and the City like I was? I have all of the seasons on DVD except season five I think. It’s fun watching the episodes this evening because I haven’t seen the show in a while and it’s like they are all new to me now.

A Case of the Mondays

I woke up and had a serious case of the Mondays. Not only was I not psyched to go back to work, but it snowed overnight and I had to wipe off my car.

snow in April, boo

Yes, it is April 18 and this is how things go in Wisconsin. When is spring coming?

Breakfast was Post Great Grains cereal and coffee.

Snack at work was peppermint tea and part of a Racine Kringle.

Lunch was a peanut butter and jelly sandwich on an Arnold’s Thin, a mango chobani, and a clementine. Oh and I almost forgot dessert because it’s unpictured. I had a girl scout peanut butter sandwich cookie.

I didn’t feel like cooking tonight and I never have to convince Craig to go out to eat, so off we went to Cousin’s for a quick meal. I had the $2.99 special of barbecue ham and cheddar. It was ok. The cheap subs never have a lot of meat on them.

I went to the gym late, around 7 p.m., but did manage to stay for an hour. I did a full circuit of weights and logged 2.09 miles on the elliptical while watching Property Virgins on HGTV. That show makes me look forward to looking for a new house someday, but also makes me dread it! My priorities will definitely be a bigger kitchen with lots of counter space, laundry on the main floor, lots of natural light and a two car garage. Not too much to ask for, huh? Aaah, a girl can dream about not having to wipe snow off her car in the middle of April and just pulling out of the garage instead!

Even though I had a serious case of the Mondays, seeing Craig at the end of the day, playing with the cute kitties, and working out always puts me in a good mood. The workout alone changed my attitude immensely. Hooray!

I’m going to bed and hoping I’m in a better mood tomorrow. I should be, because I decided to take off on Friday and that means I only have three more days of work left! 🙂

Treadmill time

I have been spending more time with the treadmill at the gym this week. I have purposely been running more to test out how I do with it. I think I’ve been doing pretty good, at least starting out with these low miles again. My knee sort of bugs me and I get side aches a lot, but I am sure that with proper training and everything, I can do a 10k in a couple of months.

I was in the mood for oatmeal this morning, so breakfast was stovetop oats with peanut butter. I added some cinnamon to spice things up but without a ripe banana, these oats were just ok.

Snack at work was peppermint tea and half of a Kind bar. I am on quite the peppermint tea kick lately. It has no caffeine of course, but the peppermint perks me up during a mid-morning break from work. While snacking, I read the article I posted earlier today about Wisconsin food and knew I would have to share it with you readers.

Lunch was an Amy’s vegetable pot pie and two oreo cookies for dessert.

Dinner was three pierogis and brussell sprouts loaded with Penzey’s spices. Thanks to Anne’s post today, I learned a lot about brussell sprouts and craved them for dinner.

Dessert was some really yummy almond cake made by my mom with some skim milk.

Workout: I let my stomach rest and then got to the gym. I biked while reading Health magazine for 20 minutes; ran and walked on the treadmill for 15 minutes and lifted some weights. I also did some abs and major stretching of my legs.

Time to read Animal, Vegetable, Miracle and get ready for bed. My favorite quotes thus far are:

“Grocery money is an odd sticking point for U.S. citizens, who on average spend a lower proportion of our income on food than people in any other country, or any heretofore in history.”

“It’s interesting that penny-pinching is an accepted defense for toxic food habits, when frugality so rarely rules other consumer domains.”

I’m enjoying the book so far and am looking forward to discussing it at the New Berlin library’s food program in two weeks from tonight.

It’s reading and then bed time for this foodie!

To 10k or not to 10k, that is the question?

So, I am forcing myself to make a decision this week on whether or not I will sign up for the Rock N’ Sole 10k this summer. The registration goes up in price after Thursday, so that is motivating me. Running a 10k was one of my goals at the beginning of the year, but I am still on the fence about doing it. The reasons are that I have two bad knees and once I start running long distances, the one especially acts up. I also have been having a lot of hip pain recently. I think with training and regular yoga, I would be ok. As you can see, I keep talking myself out of it.

I consulted Pawsitive Life’s blog post on training for a 10k and it really does look doable.

What to do? I guess I will think about it until Thursday and make my decision.

My eats for the day–breakfast was plain non-fat Chobani with Kashi Go Crisp! Berry Crumble cereal and fresh strawberries.

At work, I sipped on a peppermint tea during a meeting and then had a mini bagel with cream cheese because we had leftovers from one of my events.

Lunch was a spinach salad with herbed tofu, cherry tomatoes, shredded mozzarella and topped with olive oil and balsamic dressing. I tried the Mango Chobani for the first time and it was SO good! Probably one of my favorites (Laurie, you must get yourself to Woodman’s and try this flavor soon)! I had some peanut butter m&m’s for dessert.

The apple was my afternoon snack around 1:30 and then I had a 100 calorie pack of Blue Diamond almonds around 3:30.

I think I was extra hungry today because I was tired. I also didn’t feel great in general-nauseous off and on, not wanting to see food at certain times and then being really hungry at others. I swear being tired did this to me. I am getting myself to bed early tonight no matter what!

I meditated when I got home from work, read my book for a bit and then fell asleep on the couch. I declared a rest day from the gym since I wasn’t feeling so hot.

My lovely husband made us cheesy noodles for dinner while I napped and woke me up to let me know I could eat.

Then I attempted to play with his new Nintendo 3DS, which also made me feel dizzy and sick. You can turn the level of the 3D up and down though, so that helped. Then it was fun to play with! I love the pretty teal color. Don’t tell my husband I think the color of his 3DS is pretty though. 🙂

With that, I am going to check my google reader and sign off. Night!
