Mmmm cream puffs

What a great Wednesday! Ever since I went to yoga last night with my friend Laurie, I have been in such a good mood. I feel like my life is more balanced this week than last week and maybe that is contributing to my good mood too.

I decided to switch things up for breakfast and had a poached egg with provolone cheese and Frank’s Red Hot on whole wheat bread.

Lunch was a small taco, pineapple Chobani yogurt, and a pink lady apple.

After work, I met my friend Angie at the gym for some weights, cardio on the Cybex Arc Trainer, and abs. It was fun to catch up with her and have a buddy to workout with.

On my way back from the gym, all I could think about was making quinoa with Mmmm sauce. I’ve been wanting to make Mmmm sauce for a while now and when I tried to load the recipe online over the weekend, it wasn’t working! So, I finally made it tonight and now I know how it got it’s name!

Mmmm sauce (Recipe from Peas and Thank You)

I added chickpeas and tomatoes to the quinoa. The sauce reminded me of the flavors I love in Indian food!

I did sit there and say “mmmmm” while eating this dinner. I made Craig try some too and he thought it was pretty good.

My mom won six Wisconsin State Fair cream puffs and picked them up today, so we got three of them to enjoy.

I had one and indulged a bit.

I just heard on the news that they will have the world’s largest cream puff at the Wisconsin State Fair this year! Crazy. 🙂

I guess I had a sweet tooth tonight (even though I didn’t have any major cravings for sweets), because I also had a few bites of this addictive ice cream.

Breyers Whoppers ice cream

Time to read some blogs, a book on my kindle, and then get some zzzz’s.

Just a typical Monday

How was your Monday? Mine was much better than last Monday since I got enough zzzz’s. I had tons of meetings to go to today, so I had to be on top of my game.

Breakfast was oats in a jar. I sprinkled in some cinnamon (two types of Penzey’s) and added 3/4 of a banana. I also topped my oats with some chocolate chips.

coffee, oats in a jar

No snack at work today–didn’t need one after that bowl of oats kept me nice and full! I just had a cup of instant coffee for an extra pick me up on a Monday morning.

Lunch was leftover pizza (two slices), strawberry Athenos greek yogurt, and an unpictured pink lady apple.

For dessert, I had havla, which my co-worker brought back from Israel. It was pretty good. Totally love trying new foods from other countries!

Dinner was the leftover pasta with tomato sauce and almond cake for dessert. I washed it all down with some skim milk.

My workout tonight was good. The gym was quite packed, so I started with weights, then went on the Octane elliptical, and walked on the treadmill at a high incline. I checked March’s top fitlinxx members of the month board and was shocked to see the number of points the women got last month (my name didn’t show up on the list this time)! Some tough competition out there, but it motivates me to push myself so I can get back on that board another month!

Time to catch up on my blog and book reading!

Movie night (Tuesday recap)

Despite feeling sick most of the day, I had a good Tuesday.

Breakfast was a mini bagel with strawberry cream cheese, a bowl of Dannon vanilla yogurt with fresh strawberries and chia seeds.

I had peppermint tea as a snack around noon. My stomach was still full from breakfast and from a colitis side affect, so I ate lunch later in the day.

Lunch was a ham sandwich with spinach, a Greek style Stonyfield peach yogurt and two Oreo cookies.

After work, I ran home, meditated, jumped out of meditation and forced myself to get my fitness clothes on right away, headed to the gym and lifted weights and ran 1.27 miles or so on the treadmill. The first couple of minutes, my right knee did hurt, but I pushed through and did just fine.

Then I rushed home, showered, ate dinner and got ready to head to the movie. Craig and I got into it and had to sit close to the screen, but that was ok. Source Code was pretty good. I think it’s a good DVD rental, but I wouldn’t pay to go see it. That’s my advice. I am not a huge Jake Gylenhaal fan though. If it was Matt Damon in it, I probably would have said it was an excellent movie. 🙂

Dinner was a mini bagel with peanut butter and nutella on each half and then I snacked on a Pink Lady apple on the way to the movie. I still wasn’t that hungry at this point in the day.

Now I have to catch up on today’s post!

So happy

I leapt out of bed this morning (after hitting the snooze button a couple of times) and was so happy to start my day. Note: I haven’t felt like this in ages. The vacation in two days is giving me an extra reason to be joyous! I love to travel and especially to someplace warm with my husband in the middle of this icky Midwestern winter. I don’t know why, but I kept singing “on the good ship, lollipop” to my husband and cats this morning. Yes, I am weird and admit it. I don’t talk about my weirdness on my blog much, but my husband and I can be quite quirky together and that’s what makes life fun. Anyway…must have had a dream about the good ship lollipop or something.

Breakfast this morning was the absolute last of Jessica’s gluten free granola in my favorite flavor. I saved the best for last and had the Vanilla Maple. 😦 I’ll have to make my own granola and look for Jessica’s at Whole Foods.

Snack at work was a candy cane hot chocolate and the rest of the Newman’s Own cheddar soy crisps.

Lunch today was the pizza we had for dinner last night, a pink lady apple and two pitas with greek olive Sabra hummus. The hummus definitely was the key to filling me up at lunch.

After work, I changed and went straight to the gym. I did kind of what I did last night–biked for 18 minutes, walked/ran on the treadmill for 10, rowed for 5 minutes and lifted weights.

Dinner was a Boca Bruschetta burger on an Arnold’s Thin & a cup of skim milk.

Plus this larabar. I plan on bringing a bunch of these on our trip, so I wanted to make sure I liked this flavor.

Dessert was Newman’s Own Organics Super Dark chocolate with Reese’s pb chips.

I also had an airborne because I feel like I am getting sick and that cannot happen right now.

My food has been kind of random lately and it’s because we have been cleaning out our cabinets, fridge and freezer before this trip. For some reason, I just feel better doing that before a big trip and then we can start fresh with a big trip to the grocery store when we return.

I am off tomorrow so I can get a mini mani/pedi in the morning, head to the mall for a bit, pack for the trip, do laundry and clean up the house. Then it’s off to Florida bright and early on Friday morning!

It’s late and I just got home from a Zumbathon in downtown Milwaukee, which was sponsored by Lululemon. There were probably 100 plus women and men there tonight! Crazy!

My friends Kim (who is a Zumba instructor) and Jenny (middle) joined me (on the right).

Kim, Jenny, Lisa Zumbathon

We danced in the Astor Hotel ballroom for an hour and fifteen minutes. Jenny is new to Zumba too. Even though I probably have done it 7 or 8 times now, I had trouble keeping up because there were so many new songs they played. It was fun, put a smile on my face and great to workout with friends.

Astor Hotel Zumbathon

Before picking Jenny up for the Zumbathon, I headed to the Milwaukee Public Market for the second day in a row. This time I got dinner there at The Green Kitchen.

Rye bread (so delicious) with avocado, carrots, sprouts, tomato, and two types of cheese.

Rewind to lunch…I didn’t take a photo, but it was the rest of my Subway footlong from yesterday, a bunch of carrots and a Dannon Activia vanilla dessert yogurt. Later in the afternoon, I snacked on a pink lady apple and a mint chocolate attune bar.

Breakfast today was fresh blueberries & Jessica’s Gluten Free Granola in Almond Cherry. I think I liked the Vanilla Maple flavor better, but this was still really good.

That’s all folks. It’s time to relax a little and then get to bed. I can’t believe how quickly this week has gone by. I guess it’s because I have been working weird hours and been doing stuff after work a couple of days this week.

A good day

Despite being disappointed about Boot Camp class yesterday, I am sore in my legs today. I credit the squats we did in warmup and the squats I did with a heavy medicine ball on the bosu.

Breakfast was a fried egg on an English muffin and some cantaloupe on the side. The cantaloupe tasted so good. I cut it up before bed last night and couldn’t stop eating it!

coffee, egg sandwich, cantaloupe

Snack at work was a hot chocolate and a few raw almonds.

Lunch was minestrone soup and I threw some pita chips into it, which reminded me of tortilla soup. I love tortilla soup and really should make it at home sometime because Craig likes it too. I also had some grape tomatoes and a pink lady apple. Lots of red foods going on for my lunchtime eats!

lunch 1-25-11

I had an afternoon snack of Yogi green tea kombucha and a small square of dark chocolate.

I had quite the sweet tooth today! Upon arriving home, I needed a piece of Newman’s Own Organics tangerine licorice.

Dinner was a whole wheat tortilla with salsa, tomatoes, lettuce, pinto beans, taco flavored shredded cheese and some Penzey’s A Mural of Flavor spice sprinkled on top.

After dinner, I had a bowl of Neopolitan ice cream.

I was craving peanut butter and had some Reese’s pb chips. Told you I had a sweet tooth tonight!

Yoga tonight was great. My favorite teacher was back! He just radiates positivity, which is what I need during my work week! My friend Angie had never had class with him and she also noticed that he is so happy. My body was sore, so the stretching felt wonderful.

Now I am watching a travel show about Amsterdam and the Netherlands in general and remembering our honeymoon in Europe, wishing I was going back there soon.

We visited Amsterdam after being in a couple of German cities. We both got really ill on our second day there, especially my husband. I remember going through the Van Gogh museum feeling ready to faint. I was so happy to have seen the Almond Blossom painting though because it is one of my favorite paintings of all time.

At least we got to the Anne Frank house before feeling totally sick on that second day. I loved seeing where her family lived. Seeing her diary and her room brought me to tears though.

Oh, these darn travel shows! I have the itch to travel to Europe again. Or maybe our next big trip will be a tour in India?

I am getting my haircut tomorrow morning! It’s been three months since my last cut and my hair is getting super long. I’ll post before and after pics tomorrow. I am also getting my hair highlighted on Saturday, so I’ll feel all refreshed again after this weekend.

All in all, it was a good day. After a not so great Monday, I was happy to be productive, yet not stressed all day.

Granola goodness

Today was better than yesterday, but there were still some weird things going on at work. The moon is still full and will be for another day, so I guess I just have to suck it up and deal with issues like I have been.

Breakfast was boring–Kashi Autumn Wheat with coffee.

Kashi Autumn Wheat and coffee

Snack was a few dried apricots and another cup of coffee at work.

Lunch was leftovers of German Potato Salad, a slice of pizza, green peppers and a pink lady apple.

We had an all-staff meeting at work and they served mostly healthy foods 🙂 (usually it’s cookies and some grapes), so I had a bunch of fruit salad and some pasta salad with veggies. The berries in the fruit salad hit the spot. I miss summer fruits. 😦

When I got home from work, I was excited to find a package on my doorstep!!

It was the Jessica’s gluten free granola I won from clean eating chelsey!

Jessica even wrote a nice, handwritten note. Love getting packages with handwritten notes! Thanks Jessica.

She mentioned that the Milwaukee Whole Foods will have her products soon, so that is exciting for all of you local readers!

Karma sniffed around right after I set up for my photo.

Tanzi wanted in on the action too.

I raced to the gym to make the 5 p.m. Zumba class. It was ok. I really preferred the music and dance steps from the class I took last week with a different teacher. I struggled to keep up with some songs I hadn’t heard before.

Dinner was fettuccine alfredo again. I got home from the gym around 6:20, so I was super hungry and again, dinner had to be quick. I keep wanting to make a more elaborate quinoa dish for dinner this week and it’s just not happening.

fettuccine alfredo

Dessert was exciting (unlike my boring breakfast)–Jessica’s Vanilla Maple granola with some skim milk. It was so tasty that I went back for seconds. I can’t wait to try the other flavors too!

Craig is watching American Idol and I guess I am too because I just so happen to be blogging from our living room, per usual. I am most excited to see the Milwaukee auditions next week. They take place at my former workplace–the Milwaukee Art Museum. I was in the background while they were filming an interview outside of the Bradley Center, so maybe I will even be on TV, but I highly doubt it!

Swimming + me = disaster

I hit the gym this morning and went swimming (if you want to call it that). You see, swimming and I don’t have the best history/relationship. I used to have a major fear of the water when I was a little girl. I still am not a good swimmer and today’s attempt at doing laps proved that. At first, I tried to do laps and get my head in the water. After all, I bought prescription goggles and I thought I better use them. After I sucked at that, I did the backstroke a couple of times. I finally got out and looked for a kick board. That didn’t even help. I gave up, got out of the lap lane and settled on running in the pool. Oh well, I tried for a full half hour to do something in the water. Don’t think I will be putting my swimsuit on for a while. I’ll stick to weights, cardio machines and classes.

Breakfast was Special K Protein Plus cereal with fresh blueberries.

I bought this particular flavor after reading a recent post from A Better Bag of Groceries. She said that it rated a 60 (out of 100) on the NuVal system, which is really good for a cold cereal. Haven’t heard of NuVal? Check out their site–I love the concept and wish we had Nuval scores in Milwaukee area stores.

Before swimming, I had half of a banana and finished the other half when I got home from the gym. I tend to get very bad charley horses when swimming, so I figured some potassium right before might help.

Lunch was my leftover wrap from last night, a pink lady apple, which I dipped in almond butter, and a few pieces of Super Dark Newman’s Own Organics Chocolate.

After lunch, we ran to every hardware store possible looking for the appropriate d-rings and hooks to hang our pictures above the couch. We finally found some and realized that not every store carries d-rings, where they might have the hooks, etc. What a pain! I ended up with some cute new place mats at Target though and they were even better because they were on clearance! One was a mere 98 cents and the other was only $1.98.

Oh and while out shopping, we got a grande Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate at Starbucks to share. YUM!

Dinner tonight was at my mom and dad’s to celebrate my brothers’ birthdays this past week. One of my brothers (below) turned 40 and the other turned 51. I am 30. Quite the age difference, huh?

For dinner, I had salad, German potato salad, a piece of rye bread and some jello salad thing with fruit in it.

Dessert was chocolate cherry cake and two types of custard-Kopps red raspberry and Culver’s vanilla. Love custard!

It was a good, productive Sunday for us!

Ooh, my main man Matt Damon is on the Golden Globes, must pay attention.

Now I have to get ready for bed and try to fall asleep by 9:45. Back to another week of work!
